Can you believe June is already over? It's time for the wrap-up review! I'll give you a quick rundown of each subscription box I got (regular subscription boxes only -- no limited edition or mystery boxes). At the end, I'll choose my favorite box(es) and product(s) forJune. If you want to read the full review of a particular box, I've linked to each of them below. Links to the box and product websites are in the full reviews, so click on through if you need those. Occasionally, my opinion of a product has changed since I wrote the original review. Whenever that happens, I will note it here.
I was really happy with my June Birchbox! I chose the curated box. Three of the five products were amazing; the other two products had great formulas but just weren't for me. Benefit's Roller Lash mascara is a product I've gotten in boxes a number of times, but it's one of my favorite mascaras, so I'm always happy to get a new one. It gives you lots of length and volume, plus it curls your lashes! It doesn't even clump. My other favorite product in the box was the Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 PA++. It's a moisturizer that is supposed to keep your oil in check and give you some protection from the sun. My skin gets so oily and gross this time of year, so this was just what I needed. It kept my chin from getting greasy after a few hours, which made my makeup hold up much better. I also loved the Davines SU Hair and Body Wash. It's supposed to be used on your hair and skin after sun exposure. It has an amazing fresh citrus scent! My hair was soft and moisturized after I used this. The Davroe Ends Repair Leave-in Treatment is supposed to prevent split ends and breakage. I cut off all my hair in January and have kept it short since, so I haven't had an issue with split ends. If I had longer hair, I would be more interested in this product. The final product was the Mellow Matte Liquid Lip Paint in Tehran. The formula was easy to apply, didn't feather, and stayed on for hours, but the color didn't work for me. It was a shade browner than my natural lip color. I prefer a bolder lip color, but, if you like nudes, you'll probably like this lip paint.
My June ipsy was just okay. The bag itself was very plain. My favorite product was the Hey Honey Uncover mask. It's a mud mask with propolis in it, so it draws out impurities, minimizes oiliness, and has anti-bacterial properties to fight acne. It helped with my oil and left my skin soft and smooth. I wouldn't recommend using it if you have dry skin, but you'll love it if you have combination or oily skin. My second favorite product was the PÜR Fully Charged Magnetic Mascara. It gave me lots of length, a little volume, and no clumping. If you're like me and prefer length to volume for your lashes, you'll love this mascara. Trust Fund Beauty's nail polish formula is fabulous and I'm always happy to get another one of their polishes. It goes on smoothly, dries quickly, and doesn't chip for days. Unfortunately, though, the color ipsy sent me, Game Changer, was not my style. It's a slightly more coral version of fluorescent hunter orange. I love bright and bold colors, especially for summer, but this is a little much even for me. The NYX Professional Makeup Whipped Lip and Cheek Soufflé in Pink Cloud had a scent that was reminiscent of Play-Doh, which I didn't really like. I thought it gave me a pretty, natural pink flush to my cheeks, but I didn't like it as a lipstick. It didn't go on smoothly and the pigment wasn't all that great on my lips. PEEK Beauty's Multi-Use Black Primer did a pretty good job of keeping my eyeshadow on all day. It deepens light eyeshadow colors slightly. The packaging, though, was horrible! It was almost impossible to get the little tin open. The primer was my least favorite product in my ipsy this month.
June's Glossybox wasn't horrible, but it also wasn't great. The Julep Your Lip Addiction Tinted Lip Oil Treatment in Obsessed is perfect if you need a good lip oil, but I don't know why they bothered tinting it. The color doesn't really show up once it's on your lips. It is moisturizing, though. I liked that the INOAR Argan Oil gave my hair a little extra shine without weighing it down. It's also supposed to help with frizz, but my hair doesn't get frizzy. My favorite product in the box was the SKINN Collagenesis Daily Defense SPF 30. You always get lots of sunscreen in June boxes! This sunscreen is also moisturizing and contains vitamins. The Crème Shop's OMG Brush is an extraordinarily soft paddle brush for contour and concealer. It felt like silk on my face and gave me flawless finish. The final product was the Bang Beauty Dolce Pink Cream Color. The pigment was lacking a bit. It gave my cheeks a very subtle pink flush, but I would have liked a little more color.
The June DermStore BeautyFix was good, but not great. Two of the products were products that we had gotten in previous BeautyFix boxes. It annoys me that there are often repeat products in BeautyFix. I got to try microneedling for the first time with the ORA Microneedle Face Roller System. You run the microneedler all over your face before your skincare routine and it is supposed to help the skincare products penetrate your skin better. It didn't hurt all that much when I was using it, but my face was a little sore and red for a few hours after. I haven't used it long enough to notice a big difference. I love Paula's Choice products, so I was happy to see their Sun Care Sunscreen Spray in the box. It's very easy to apply because it's a spray. It gives you good coverage, but I recommend rubbing it into your skin after spraying it on your body to make sure you don't miss a spot. The H2O+ Beauty Aquadefense Refining Matcha Detox Mask is a dark green peel off mask that is moisturizing and pore minimizing. You apply the liquid mask to your face, allow it to dry, then it peels off. Peel off masks are always fun. It left my skin feeling soft and tight and looking radiant. BeautyFix has sent us the Supersmile Professional Whitening System before, so I was surprised to see it again. The kit comes with a toothpaste and a whitening accelerator. They taste good and leave my teeth feeling clean, but I would have to use them for a longer period of time to see a whitening effect. There's no way to see how well it works with such small samples! The La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer is the perfect lightweight moisturizer for summer days! It hydrates and brightens your skin and help keeps oil production in check. Best of all, it's only $19.99, so it's very affordable. The Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment was moisturizing, but I didn't find that it worked any better than Chapstick. Like most SkinCeuticals products, the Resveratrol B E has a weird scent, but it goes away once it has absorbed. It's an anti-aging serum. I wasn't able to see results with such a small sample, but resveratrol is great for fighting signs of aging, so I imagine it works well. We got the Laura Geller Pout Perfection Waterproof Lip Liner in a BeautyFix box last year, and now we get another one. At least the color I got this time was different. I got Spice, which is kind of a dark neutral color. I prefer clear lip liners, so I won't get much use out of this. It keeps your lipstick from feathering and is waterproof, so it holds up all day. It's a great lip liner, but just not the color for me.
I thought the June Play! by Sephora was a little disappointing. Four of the six products were old, popular products that almost every subscriber has probably tried multiple times. The two other products were new to me. The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick was what I was most excited about. Unfortunately, I got the color Lovesick, a mauve, instead of K-Dub, a fuchsia. I loved the formula -- it stayed on all day! The color was very close to my natural lip color, though, so it's not for me. The Verb Sea Spray was the other product I hadn't tried. Unfortunately, I have short hair so sea salt sprays don't really do anything for my hair. The other hair product was the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. This is one of the better dry shampoos out there, but I wish it was the tinted version, which is easier to use for darker haired people. The COOLA Makeup Setting Spray not only locks your makeup in for the day, but it also has sunscreen in it. While I would recommend using a regular facial sunscreen before applying your makeup, this will give you some protection if you skip the regular sunscreen. Benefit's POREfessional is a product I've gotten a million samples of. It's a pretty good primer, but it's not my favorite. It's a tinted cream, but it's very sheer, so it will work for all complexions. The perfume sample was Versace's Bright Crystal. This is an eleven-year-old perfume, so most Play! subscribers have probably tried it. It's a beautiful, soft floral. I like the perfume, but I would have liked to have tried something newer.
The June Julep was fabulous! I got four nail polishes -- Marisol, Jaydra, Elsie, and Signe. The June collection of polishes was very pretty. Marisol is a "golden amber metallic," Jaydra a "Tuscan rose sheer holographic," Elise a "strawberry popsicle holographic jelly," and Signe a "red-hot coral shimmer." My favorite color was Elsie. I love Julep's holographic polishes because they look like a rainbow on my hands in the sun. Jaydra was a holographic, but it was more subtle than most of Julep's holographics. It also didn't seem very sheer. It was my least favorite of the four polishes this month. The other two products I got were absolutely amazing! Julep's new mascara With a Twist is my new favorite mascara. You screw the cap of the spoolie and make it short and it gives your lashes lots of volume. After applying it with the short spoolie, you spin the cap the other way to make it long and then you can add length to your lashes. I can't believe how long and beautiful my lashes look with this mascara. It gets every lash and doesn't clump. It also has a slight curling effect. Julep's new foundation/concealer is also fabulous. It blends in well, doesn't get cakey or gross looking, gives me great coverage, and lasts all day. You can use it as an all-over foundation or a spot concealer. I tried it both ways and found it worked well either way. I highly recommend giving Julep's foundation a try!
My June Terra Bella Box was a lot of fun! I liked everything in the box. I was worried the Sugar Shak Collection's Luxurious Bath Bomb in Banana Cream would have a strong banana scent, but, fortunately, the scent was quite soft. The bath bomb was very moisturizing! My favorite product in the box was The Preserve Company's Hand and Body Scrub in Georgia-Florida State Line. It's a sugar scrub that is orange and peach scented. I was worried I wouldn't like it because I don't like peach, but the orange scent was stronger and the scents worked well together. It was both exfoliating and moisturizing. Indigo Wild is an amazing company, so I was happy to see their Zum Wash Natural Liquid Soap for Hands and Body in the box. The scent was called Sea Salt, but I didn't get a sea salt scent at all. It had more of a hippie scent to it. While the scent wasn't my favorite, it was okay. I wouldn't use it for a body wash, but I will use it for hand soap. Finally, there was the Modish Polish Nail Polish in Control Freak. The color was a beautiful deep red. This was my first time trying Modish Polish and I was impressed with the formula. It looked good with one coat (though I would recommend two for best results), dried somewhat quickly, and there were no major chips for a few days.
The Petit Vour in June was pretty good. My favorite product was the Mai Couture Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Paper. I love Mai Couture's blotting papers, so I'm always happy to get a new one. The charcoal is supposed to absorb bacteria and toxins. I'm not sure how much of that it does as it's just making a quick pass over your face, but it sops up the excess oil and doesn't mess up your makeup. Blotting papers are a must-have for me in the summer! The Niu Body Makeup Remover Wipes for Normal Skin were surprisingly dry. They are big cotton pads that contain coconut, geranium, and lavender oils to remove your makeup. I'm used to my makeup remover pads feeling wet. These worked a lot better than I thought they would! They removed even waterproof eye makeup easily. The My Daughter Fragrances Bloom 23 Perfume is a very floral fragrance that has vanilla and ylang ylang base notes and gardenia mid notes. I don't normally like vanilla in perfumes, but I loved this scent. Modern Minerals' Lip Crème Tint in Joyful gave me just a hint of color. It was moisturizing and had a soft floral scent. I could see using this around the house, but I need a bolder color when I go out. It would be perfect for a beach day, though, when you wanted just a hint of color on your lips but don't want a full face of makeup.
The June Kloverbox was one of my favorite Kloverboxes ever. I love Konjac sponges, so I was happy to get the pureSOL Konjac Face Sponge with Turmeric. I've tried lots of different types of Konjac sponges, but this was my first one with turmeric, which is supposed to be anti-aging. If you haven't tried a Konjac sponge, I highly recommend it. I wasn't sure what I would think of the Cultivar Organic Restorative Body Oil, but I ended up loving it. It absorbs quickly, isn't greasy at all, and it's exceptionally moisturizing. I got even more sunblock! It's definitely the month for sunblock. I'm stocked up for the summer. The Z Skin Simply Organic Sunblock is one of my favorites of the sunblocks I got this month. It has a fruity scent to it, so it's definitely the best smelling of the sunblocks. Besides protecting your skin from the sun, it also repels insects and helps even out skin tone. The final product was the Patience Fruit and Co. Organic Dried Cranberries. I love dried cranberries, so I was happy to see this little snack in the box. It is sweetened with apple juice, so it is sweet, but not overly sweet.
June's Goodbeing was just okay. My favorite product in the box was the Blissoma Flawless Equalizing Anti-Blemish Oil Serum. It contains a blend of plant oils and it is anti-aging, helps prevent and kill off acne, and promotes healing. It helped me take care of a mini breakout. Pacifica's Stunning Brows Eyebrow Gloss and Set in Clear shaped my brows well and didn't dry out and leave little white flakes in my eyebrows halfway through the day. I prefer colored brow products so I can fill in my brows while shaping them, so I probably won't use this brow gloss that much. The ParaKito Mosquito Repellent is a gel that forms a barrier between your skin and mosquitoes, plus the gel masks your scent, making it more difficult for mosquitoes to find you. I used this once in a buggy area and found it worked well. The mosquitoes didn't bother me. Skin Owl's Neck+ is a gel that you apply to your neck and chest to tighten your skin and minimize lines. Your neck is generally one of the first places to show signs of aging and it's often ignored in skincare routines, so I'm always happy to get a neck product. This was moisturizing but it felt a little sticky for a few minutes after I applied it. I would have preferred a cream to a gel. The final product was a perfume sample from Prim Botanicals. Flor Oscura is a little too floral for me. I like floral scents, but this was too much. The rose in it was quite strong. If you love rose, this is the perfume for you. I don't hate the perfume, but I certainly don't love it.
The June PopSugar Must Have box wasn't my favorite. PopSugar has had some off months recently and this was one of them. The Aloha Collection Mid-Size Coco Palms Pouch is made of Tyvek, a thin, waterproof material, making it perfect to protect your phone or book at the beach or to put your wet bathing suit in. While the material itself is wateproof, the bag is not as the zipper area could let water in. It can take a little splashing, but don't submerge it. PopSugar includes a beach read every June and this year's was The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This looks like a fun book, so I am looking forward to reading it. PopSugar came very late in the month, so I haven't had a chance to read the book yet. I got even more sea salt spray! The Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Hair Spray is supposed to both texturize and moisturize hair. My hair is short, so it won't do much for my hair, unfortunately. I thought the Billabong Aloha Trucker Hat was a strange thing to include in the box. It isn't my style at all! Emily likes it, though, so it's all hers. NCLA's So Rich Cuticle Oil in Mermaid Tears has a honeysuckle and ocean breeze scent. It's moisturizing and made my skin feel soft. You're supposed to apply it twice daily to your nails and cuticles to make your cuticles easier to remove. I don't have much difficulty removing my cuticles normally, but this made them slightly easier to remove. The scent was a little strong, but it was okay. The Meri Meri Blue and White Party Straws are cute, but a little boring for a PopSugar box. The snack for June was Belgian Boys Mini Cookie Stash Cookie Butter Cookies. The cookies had a great flavor and were sweet, but not overly sweet. The final product was a sponsored extra, the Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino. It was a little weird to see a frappuccino in a box. I've never liked coffee, so I passed the frappuccino along to a friend.
The Summer FabFitFun box was fabulous, as always! FabFitFun is one of my favorite boxes, so I got a second box with the referral credits I earned. I got the Michael Stars Convertible Ruana in both Tile Inspired Print and Batik Print. These are cute, versatile ruanas that can be used as scarves, beach coverups, or sarongs. I love the prints! Best of all, part of the proceeds from the sale of these ruanas goes to FabFitFun's charity partner this month, The Joyful Heart Foundation, which helps survivors of sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence. The Kris Nations Mystic Bar Necklace was a lot more delicate than I expected, but it was pretty. I got the gold and turquoise in one box and the gold and peach moonstone in the other. Be careful when latching these -- I've had issues with the clasp not shutting fully and the necklace falling off in the middle of the day and I've heard reports from other people experiencing similar problems. I got the bkr Bottle in Rosy, a bright pink, and Romeo, a bright blue. bkr bottles are glass with a silicone coating over them. They keep my drinks cold and are pretty. The Juice Beauty Smoothing Eye Concentrate, Eau Thermale Avène Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+, and the Cargo Cosmetics Cargo_HD Picture Perfect Highlighter came in all boxes, so I got two of each of those. The Juice Beauty eye cream is okay. It's better than most Juice Beauty Products. I liked the Eau Thermale Avène sunscreen a lot. It's very lightweight and is perfect to go under your makeup. The Cargo highlighter was a little too dark for me to use as a highlighter. I'll use it as an eyeshadow or give it to a friend. Subscribers could choose either a "fitness boost" or "beauty boost." For the fitness boost in the first box, I got the Way of Will Soothe and Cool Peppermint and German Chamomile Post-Training Massage Oil. This works great on sore and tired muscles after a long day. I love this stuff! It takes a few minutes for it to fully absorb. It smells great and makes it easier for me to fall asleep. The beauty boost, which is the option I got in the second box, was the Klorane Dry Shampoo (the same kind I got in the Play! by Sephora box). Subscribers were also able to choose their "personality type," traveler, chef, or artist. I chose the chef for the first box and the artist came in my second box. The chef product was the Salted Pink Himalayan Salt Kit. I love salt, so this was perfect for me! It comes with a cutting board, a grater, and two big pieces of Himalayan rock salt. The artist kit was not for me at all. It was a paint set by Amy Tangerine and it came with a canvas, stencils, a brush, a sponge, and some acrylic paint. It looked like a kit for kids, not adults. There was a sponsored extra, Vital Proteins Marine Collagen. It's a packet of powder you add to your drinks to make your hair, skin, and nails healthier. I just haven't been able to bring myself to try it as it doesn't look very good. FabFitFun knocked it out of the park again!
The June Mommy Mailbox had a Vacation theme this month and was curated by Lisa Fitch. I wasn't sure what I was going to think of the La Leela Beach Coverup at first, but I tried it at the beach and liked it more than I expected. The print is cute and the coverup is easy to slip on. I got another bottle of Modish Polish, this time in Malibu Sunset, a beautiful pale yellow. The formula was the same as the other Modish Polish that I reviewed above. I can't decide if I like the yellow or deep red more. There was a luggage tag made especially for Mommy Mailbox. The Stash Selection Lariat Necklace is on-trend and pretty. We got a LaRitzy Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Bare. The lip pencil works well, but I prefer clear liners, so I probably won't use this all that often. The final product was a snack, McCrea's Black Lava Sea Salt Caramels. It's a creamy caramel with a hint of salt. These were delicious!
The Zoe Report Box of Style had everything you need for a day at the beach. The Helena Quinn kimono was designed exclusively for Box of Style. It's a beautiful, lightweight kimono that can be used as a robe, a beach coverup, or you can wear it with a t-shirt and jeans. Subscribers were able to choose tortoiseshell or black for their RAEN Durante Sunglasses. These are oversized cat eye sunglasses and they were very flattering on my square face. I went with the tortoiseshell, but I loved the black, too. I'm not normally a hat person, but I liked the Sole Society Straw Panama Hat with Poms. It was the perfect beach hat. The pompoms are adorable! The Brave Collection Compass Necklace was cute, but it was a little on the boring side. I like it, but it's not my favorite necklace. We also got two products from Beautycounter -- Color Pinch Cream Blush in Hibiscus and Protect Stick Sunscreen. More sunscreen! The blush has amazing pigment, blends out well, and stays on all day. It gave me a pretty pink flush that looked natural. The sunscreen is water-resistant and has aloe, shea butter, and coconut and açaí oils, so it's moisturizing. It smells like cocoa butter. This wasn't my favorite Box of Style ever, but it was a pretty good one.
As for favorite products this month, it was hard to choose! I narrowed it down to seven products -- Salted Himalayan Pink Salt Kit from FabFitFun, RAEN Durante Sunglasses in Tortoiseshell from The Zoe Report Box of Style, Mai Couture Skincare Blotting Paper in Bamboo Charcoal from Petit Vour, Michael Stars Convertible Ruana in Tile Inspired Print from FabFitFun, Julep With a Twist Mascara from Julep, Julep Cushion Complexion 3-in-1 Skin Perfector with Turmeric from Julep, and Way of Will Soothe and Cool Peppermint and German Chamomile from FabFitFun.
Choosing my favorite boxes for June wasn't as difficult as usual. While I liked them all, FabFitFun and Julep were the definite winners.
