It's already March, so it's time for the February wrap-up review! I'll give quick reviews of each beauty box I got in February (regular subscription boxes only, no limited edition boxes or mystery boxes) and tell you which boxes and products were my favorites. Sometimes, after using a product more, my opinion on it changes, so if I like it more or less than I did when I originally reviewed it, I'll be sure to note that here. If you want the full review of a particular box, click on the link in the mini review of that box below. Also, if you want the links to the boxes or the products, you'll need to click through to the full review for those.
My February ipsy was worth $94.50, which, I believe, is the highest value ipsy bag I've gotten. Not bad for a $10 subscription! A little over half the value was from a full size The Organic Pharmacy Lip and Eye Cream. The cream was very thick and seemed better for lips than eyes. I would never pay $48 for it, but I'm happy to have gotten it in a box. I got another full size Trust Fund Beauty nail polish from ipsy, but the color, $12 Latte, a medium brown, wasn't really my style and I found it chipped sooner than other Trust Fund Beauty nail polishes have on me. ipsy sent me two Soo Ae sheet masks -- one green tea, one charcoal -- and both were hydrating and smelled good. My two favorite products in my ipsy bag were the NYX Butter Lipstick in Lifeguard and the Bellápierre Volume Lash Waterproof Mascara. I haven't found many NYX and Bellápierre products I've liked before, so I was a little surprised. The lipstick went on smoothly and stayed on all day without feathering. The color, Lifeguard, was a deep red and was very flattering on me. The mascara gave me lots of length and volume and no clumping. The bag itself was denim with orange trim, which wasn't my favorite design, but it wasn't horrible. I was happy with the February ipsy.
The Glossybox in February was just okay. The spoiler for the month had been the Jeanne Arthes L'eau de Rose Eau de Parfum. It was full size and smelled of straight up rose. There was no subtlety to it, no top, base, or mid notes, all just really strong rose. It's cheap perfume and it's obvious that it's cheap. I was not a fan of the perfume at all. I've gotten the Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat in a box before and liked it, so I was happy to get a full size version of it. This is a nail base coat that can be worn on its own or under nail polish. It gives your nails the slightest pink tint and it is supposed to brighten and strengthen your nails. I've been very hard on my nails recently, so this has been a lifesaver. The Estée Edit Pink Peony Overnight Water Pack is a hydrating and brightening sleeping mask. You put it on before bed and then rinse it off in the morning. It was very hydrating, but I would have to use it more to see brightening effects. Most subscribers received an Eve by Eve's product, but the product itself varied. I got the Flawless Finish Mineral Powder in Blush, a tan color. Blush is their darkest mineral powder, so it didn't work for my complexion. I gave it to my friend Johnny, though, and he said it gave him the perfect finish and held up throughout the day. The final product in my Glossybox was the Schwarzkopf Professionals BC Bonacure Moisture Kick Beauty Balm. You apply this to your damp hair and it is supposed to give you added moisture. I didn't notice any difference, unfortunately. I liked two of the five things and my friend liked the powder, so it wasn't a total loss, but the perfume was just horrible and the hair product didn't seem to do anything. At least the box, which had a peony design in February, was pretty.
I got the curated February Birchbox. The Vasanti Eye Wonder 2.0 helped with puffiness a lot, so I was very impressed with this little eye cream. The Acure Purifying Fruit Peel uses fruit acids to gently exfoliate. It made my skin feel extra smooth and wasn't irritating at all. Acure is one of my favorite inexpensive natural beauty brands. The main reason I chose the curated box was the CLEAN Reserve Amber Saffron Eau de Parfum. I love CLEAN perfumes and this one was no exception. It's a warm, sexy fragrance that was perfect for Valentine's Day. The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick in Marsala was a beautiful color and had fabulous pigment, but the staying power was only so-so. It was easy to reapply, though, and it was hydrating, so I could overlook the lack of staying power. The final product was the Bumble and bumble. Bb Repair Blow Dry. It's supposed to protect hair from heat and help with split ends. I have no split ends right now and I don't blow dry my hair, so I didn't really have any use for this. I love Bumble and bumble. products, though, so I imagine it's as good as the rest of their line. I'm definitely happy I chose the curated box in February.
The DermStore BeautyFix last month wasn't my favorite. The product I liked most in the box, strangely enough, was the Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Illuminating Primer. I'm normally not a Juice Beauty fan, but this wasn't a bad primer. It gives you a bit of glow, but, if you use full coverage foundation over it, you're not going to be able to see it. The consistency was quite thin and I like my primers a little thicker, but I'll use this while I have it. I wish that DermStore would stop sending so many Juice Beauty products. The LaRoche-Posay Roseliac CC Cream is a tinted moisturizer, but it was too dark for my skin. It was also very thick and hard to blend. I liked the volume and length I got from the SmartFX Volume Extend Mascara, but I had a lot of problems with it clumping. I stopped using it after a couple of days because the clumping was so bad. I was looking forward to trying the By Terry Baume de Rose as I had heard so many good things about it. This was a very moisturizing lip balm, but the strong rose scent was a little too much for me. I like this and I will use this up, but I won't buy a new one once it's gone. We got a Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Lip Satin in the December box and I loved it, so I was excited to get another one. Unfortunately, the color the sent this time, Cashmere, was a soft rose color that was almost the same color as my lips. I love the formula, but I need a bolder color. The final product was the SkinMedica Total Defense and Repair Broad Spectrum SPF 34 Sunscreen. Subscribers were sent sunscreens that had either already expired in January or were about to expire in March, so many subscribers were upset. At first, DermStore was sending replacements to customers, but then too many people complained, so they started telling subscribers that the product would be good for three months after the listed expiration date and that they wouldn't replace it. This was one of my least favorite BeautyFix boxes.
The February Play! by Sephora came in a rose sateen bag. I'm so glad they are moving away from the plain white cotton bag. The Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer doubles as a primer. It reminded me of a creamier version of Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. I liked it as a primer, but it wasn't quite as moisturizing as I would have liked. My favorite product was the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream. This contains ginseng and coffee. I found that it helped a lot with puffiness. The Too Faced Lip Injection Glossy gives your lips some extra volume, but I don't need fuller lips. The color, Milkshake, lightened my lips a shade and made them glossy. The color definitely wasn't my favorite. I felt some tingliness after applying it, which is common with lip plumpers, but I've heard a lot of people complain that it was painful and made their skin red, so do a patch test before applying it to your lips. The Sephora Collection Lashcraft Length and Volume Mascara gave me lots of length, some volume, and no clumping. The cap on it, though, was teeny, so it was very hard to grip it and apply the mascara. I got a second lip product, the NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Bound. I love the formula, but the color is almost the same as my lips, so it is too subtle for me. The fragrance this month was Marc Jacobs Divine Decadence. I hated this perfume. It seemed pretty masculine on me. I had to wash it off right after applying it because I just couldn't tolerate it. This definitely wasn't my favorite Play! by Sephora.
My February Julep was fabulous. I got Julep's When Pencil Met Gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Graphite Shimmer and Smoky Plum. I love the formula of this eyeliner, so I always love getting new colors. It's a pencil, but it goes on smoothly and evenly. The staying power is pretty good, but I often have to reapply on the lower lid if I have a long day. Graphite Shimmer was a charcoal with a little sparkle and has been my most used eyeliner in the past month. The Smoky Plum was a much deeper color than I expected. It was almost black, but it was still pretty. I decided to add on some extra nail polish, so I got four nail polishes instead of just one, and then Julep sent me a fifth nail polish as a free gift because I had three add-ons. I got Maylee, a "midnight navy with gold microshimmer," Della, "a misted blackberry microshimmer," Ainsley, a "feather grey with gold ghost shimmer," and August, a "chocolate cherry ghost shimmer," all of which were from the February collection. August was so dark it was almost black and it was difficult to see the shimmer. Maylee was a little darker than I expected, but it was beautiful. My two favorites were Della and Ainsley. The free polish Julep sent me was Juliana, a "pink grapefruit sheer iridescent." It was my favorite color this month! It was just gorgeous. It will be perfect for summer. Instead of sending candy this month, Julep sent me a sample of Love Your Bare Face Hydrating Cleansing Oil. It removed my makeup easily and didn't feel greasy at all. I was very happy with my February Julep.
My February Petit Vour was okay. I didn't like it quite as much as January, but it wasn't bad. I've gotten the St. Tropica Organic Coconut Hot Oil Hair Mask a number of times before, but it does an excellent job hydrating your hair, so I never mind getting another one. All subscribers got konjac sponges from The Konjac Sponge Co., but the type varied. I got the French green clay. If you're not familiar with konjac sponges, they are made from a tuber and can be used to cleanse and exfoliate your face. I love how soft and smooth they make my face, so I am always happy to get a new one. The AILA 3-in-1 Nail Color Remover Wipe is acetone-free, so this will only work on plain nail polish. Forget using this if your nail polish has any glitter in it. While acetone-free removers are better for your nails, it's a lot harder to get the polish off, so I prefer to use acetone. Finally, I got the Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Cream Shadow Stick in 02 Mist, which was a very pale peachy cream color. It was almost the exact same color as my skin. It had a little bit of shimmer in it, so I used it to highlight on my brow bone. It stayed on all day for me, but I always use Urban Decay eyeshadow primer, so most eyeshadow stays on if I use that.
In February, Terra Bella Box sent us the most amazing bar soap, Formulary 55 Shea Butter Soap in Love Potion #9. I normally hate bar soap, but I love this stuff. It smells so good and was very moisturizing. The scent is strong, so it won't be for everyone, but I thought it was perfect. The Voesh Pedi in a Box Ultimate Six Step in Aloe Aloe made my feet feel extra soft. The box contained one-time-use packets of sea salt soak, callus remover, sugar scrub, mud masque, massage cream, and moisturizer. You can use them all for a special pedicure night, or you could use them one at a time whenever your feet need a little love. The Feeling Smitten Confetti Cake Heart Bath Pop was almost too cute to use. It's a bath bomb and it smells great and leaves your skin feeling hydrated. The final product was the Jersey Shore Sun Anti-Aging Lip and Hand Polish in Vanilla Bean. You have to warm this up before using it, then you use the sugar scrub to exfoliate your lips or hands. The vanilla scent is quite strong. This works well, but, at $25 an ounce, it is quite expensive. Overall, I was very happy with the February Terra Bella Box.
The Kloverbox had a beautiful Valentine's Day theme. I loved the Wrenn Jewelry The Becki Earrings in Rose Druzy/Rose Gold. I had gotten The Becki earrings in rainbow druzy in a different box a few months back and loved them, so I was happy to get another color. The Cypress Skincare Foot Love is a peppermint-scented oil that absorbs quickly and made my feet feel soft. The Isle Co. Soy Lotion Candle in Love Struck had a beautiful tropical scent to it. You burn this soy candle and then you can use the "wax" as a massage oil. It was moisturizing and non-greasy. The final product was a box of two chocolates from Rose and Basil. Subscribers received different types of chocolates and the box didn't tell you which types you got. I got a rose chocolate and then one that I believe was their holiday spice and nut dark chocolate truffle. I liked the holiday spice truffle a lot, but the rose truffle wasn't for me. It had a very strong rose scent. While rose is edible, it's not something I associate with food and it felt weird eating it. I couldn't finish it. This was a good month for Kloverbox.
My February Goodbeing wasn't my favorite. The Shea Radiance Keratin Deep Conditioning Hair Mask made my hair a little softer, but I didn't notice much of a difference. It's supposed to make your hair stronger, but it's hard to tell if it actually did that. They recommend it for curly hair, so you might see more of a difference if you have curly hair and use it. My favorite product in the box was the Pangea Organics Facial Toner in Argentinean Tangerine and Thyme. This helped control oil, but didn't dry my skin out. I've gotten the MyChelle Dermaceuticals Perfect C Radiance Lotion before and loved it, so I was happy to get a new one. Unfortunately, the cap wasn't on securely, so it was exposed to air and was brown instead of the normal light yellow. The lotion darkens over time, but this was very dark. I'm not sure if it is okay to use. Goodbeing has excellent customer service, so I'm sure they would have replaced it if I had asked, but I never got around to doing it. The lotion brightens your face. The American Provenance Natural Lip Balm in Grapefruit is very moisturizing and smells great. It's a little grainier feeling than most lip balms, but I like it. The final product was the Seaweed Bath Co. Restoring Marine Serum. It was moisturizing, but it was hard to see if this was anti-aging as the sample was very small and I only got a few uses out of it. The Pangea Organics toner and the lip balm were good finds, but the other stuff was just okay.
The February PopSugar Must Have was a lot of fun. I always love the PopSugar February box. It seems like it is their best month of the year. The Tribe Alive Foldover Clutch was beautiful, well-made, and had a lot of weight to it. It's also quite big. I still don't know what I am going to do with it, but I love it, so I know I will find some use for it. The Kris Nations Love Script Necklace was my favorite thing in the PopSugar box. The pendant is so delicate and beautiful. It is subtle, so it would be appropriate any time of the year, not just around Valentine's Day. The Juara Candlenut Body Creme is thin, but hydrating, and it absorbs quickly. I love the scent. The only real miss in the box for me was the Battington 3D Silk Lashes in Monroe. They are nice false lashes, but I very rarely use false lashes as I have such a hard time applying them perfectly. The Chuao Cinnamon Cereal Smooch was crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch covered in milk chocolate. This would have been a little better if it had been dark chocolate, but it was still delicious. The final product was a sponsored extra from Revlon, the Love is On Super Lustrous Lipstick. This was great for a drugstore lipstick. The pigment was good, it went on smoothly, and lasted for hours.
My Mommy Mailbox in February was so pretty. The Feeling Smitten Small Sweet Heart Cupcake Bath Bomb had a sweet scent to it, but it was hard to smell once it dissolved. It was so cute that I almost didn't want to use it. The "cake" part was Epsom salt, so I threw it in the tub and it dissolved quickly and gave me a relaxing bath. The "frosting" part is supposed to be a sugar scrub, but it felt rough and kept breaking, so I just threw it in the tub and let it dissolve. The Jersey Shore Spa Anti-Aging Whole Body Balm contains argan oil and vitamin E to hydrate your skin and fight signs of aging. You can use this on your face, lips, hair (to keep flyaways in check), cuticles, and all over the rest of your body. It's bigger than a lip balm, but small enough you can throw in your purse so you can use it when you are out and about. We got another Jersey Shore Cosmetics product, the Lip and Cheek Rouge in Baccara Rose. This has impressive pigment! You can use a light touch and use this as a blush, or you can go a little heavier and use it as a lipstick. Usually I don't get enough color when I use a lip and cheek product on my lips, but this actually worked as a beautiful lipstick for me. I had to reapply often when I had it on my lips, so I will probably just use it as a blush. The Isaac Jacobs International picture frame was very cute and is the perfect size to put on your desk. The final product was the Crave Artisan Chocolate Choco Dipped Graham Cookie. This was soooo yummy! I'm not much of a graham cracker person, so I didn't expect that I would like this very much, but it was very tasty. What a great month for Mommy Mailbox!
It was so hard to pick just a few favorites, but I think my favorite products this month were the Bellápierre Volume Lash Waterproof Mascara from ipsy, the Formulary 55 Shea Butter Moisturizing Soap in Love Potion #9 from Terra Bella Box, the Wrenn Jewelry The Becki Earring in Rose Druzy/Rose Gold from Kloverbox, the Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat from Glossybox, the CLEAN Reserve Amber Saffron Eau de Parfum from Birchbox, and the Kris Nations Love Script Necklace from PopSugar Must Have. Honorable mentions go to the NYX Butter Lipstick in Lifeguard from ipsy, the Isle Co. Soy Lotion Candle in Love Struck from Kloverbox, the Pangea Organics Facial Toner in Argentinean Tangerine and Thyme from Goodbeing, the Chuao Cinnamon Cereal Smooch and Tribe Alive Foldover Clutch from PopSugar Must Have, and the Crave Artisan Chocolate Choco Dipped Graham Cookie from Mommy Mailbox.
It's always hard to choose favorite boxes. My goal is to pick one favorite box each month, but I've never been able to narrow it down to just one. My favorites for February were Kloverbox, Mommy Mailbox, PopSugar Must Have, and Birchbox.
Which boxes and products were your favorites? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
