PopSugar Must Have ($39.95 per month, US only)
I love getting PopSugar boxes because it gives Emmett, my most special bunny, a chance to model! It's usually the only box big enough to fit him!
You might be wondering why I am reviewing the July PopSugar box at the end of August. I don't subscribe to PopSugar, but, occasionally, they have a lot of extras of a box and they'll put it on Gilt City for a reduced price. They offered both the June and July boxes on sale for $25 each a few weeks ago. I also had a coupon code, bringing the price down to $20. I had no interest in the June box, but I thought the July box was cute. PopSugar boxes can be hit or miss for me, so I love watching for when they go on sale and then buying it if it's something I would like.
PopSugar Must Have is more of a lifestyle box than a beauty box. One or two of the six to seven items is always a beauty product, and the other items are a mix of jewelry, accessories, and home items, plus a snack. The value is always $100+. It's a $40 box, so it's one of the more expensive subscriptions out there, but it is often worth the price.
Here's what was in the July 2016 PopSugar Must Have box:
- Sachajuan Hair in the Sun (full size, worth $32)
- House of Pom Emoji Cocktail Napkins (worth $25)
- Michael Stars Porcelain Skinny Scarf in White (worth $30, currently on sale for $21)
- Pintrill Pineapple Pin (worth $12)
- Sunnylife Inflatable Swan Drink Holder (worth $18)
- European Wax Center Oh My Brow! Brow Highlighter in Pearl (full size, worth $19)
- Joe Chips Classic Sea Salt Retro Potato Chips (2 oz. bag, worth $1.25)
- $20 Trove Gift Card
The July PopSugar Must Have box was worth $157.25. You definitely get your money's worth with PopSugar. There were two beauty products, two accessories, two home items, and a snack, plus a $20 gift card, so the product mix was great. People seemed to either love or hate the July box, but I was very happy with it.
The first product was the Sachajuan Hair in the Sun, which was also the only product I had no interest in. This is a cream that protects color-treated hair from the sun so it won't fade as quickly, plus it hydrates hair, gives your hair some very light hold for styling, and protects hair from heat. I don't dye my hair or heat style it, so I don't need a product like this. While I'm sure it's still good for my hair to have some protection from UV rays, it's not high on my list of hair products I want. I used this and didn't notice any added hydration. I've given this to a friend who likes to dye her hair rainbow colors as I figured she needs it a lot more than I do.
The House of Pom Emoji Cocktail Napkins are the cutest! I'm one of those annoying people who likes to use emoji constantly. All of the emoji on these napkins are in my regular rotation except for the sunglasses and the palm tree. I love the bee, the flower, the cocktail, and the winky face. These are high quality cloth napkins and the emoji are embroidered, not printed. I can't wait to have a cocktail party so I can break these out.
I thought the Michael Stars Porcelain Skinny Scarf was kind of ugly at first and I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. It's very skinny for a scarf and the fabric is lightweight. While I don't like using it as a scarf, it looks really cute when I use it as a headband of sorts. I got so many compliments on it when I did that. Here's a picture of me with it in my hair:
I love pineapples, so I was elated to get this adorable Pintrill pin. This is very small and delicate and it goes with just about anything. I've been putting it on the lapels and collars of my shirts, but it would be cute on a backpack or jacket, too. It feels sturdy for such a little thing and the backing on it is black rubber, so it isn't as painful if it gets pressed into you as it would be if it were metal. The pineapple itself is gold-plated brass. I've gotten lots of compliments on this little pin.
I don't have a pool, but, for some reason, I really wanted this silly swan drink holder. I took it to the beach with me, put a leash around its neck, and tied it to the float I was on so I could float around and have my drink with me. You could use it to hold drinks outside of the water if you don't go swimming often. It would be perfect to use on uneven ground if you're having a picnic. I love this thing, even though I have limited use for it.
European Wax Center's Oh My Brow highlighter is a pearly white color. It's supposed to be used under the eyebrows, but it could be used wherever you need a highlighter. It looked great on me and held up all day. I thought it would be sheer enough to work on most complexions, but I tried it on my friend, Johnny, who is a Black man who loves makeup and who is always helping me try stuff out, and it was very white looking on him. He thought maybe he could use it under a bronzer, but it wouldn't work on its own. This also came with a card for a free brow wax at a European Wax Center, but there isn't one in my area and the coupon expires tomorrow, so I won't be able to use it.
Joe Chips Classic Sea Salt Retro Potato Chips are your basic kettle chip. These are very crispy and have the perfect amount of salt, but they weren't any different from other kettle chips I've tried.
PopSugar included a $20 gift card to Trove, a jewelry website. You can't use this with other gift cards or coupons and the products on the site cost a lot more than $20. I won't be using this, but, if someone wants it, send me a message and I'll e-mail you the coupon code..
I'm really happy with the July PopSugar box! I'm glad it wasn't that popular and they ended up selling the extras at a discounted price on Gilt City. It's on the trendy side, so I understand it wasn't for everyone, but it was a cute, fun box for me. It's hard to pick a favorite product as I love the napkins, the swan, the pin, and the scarf so much. The August box sold out, so you won't see that one on the sale sites, unfortunately.
Did you get the July PopSugar box? If so, what did you think?
