Terra Bella Box, $32.95 per month (free shipping to US addresses; see site for international shipping rates)
So cute and fluffy! He thought the squiggles were a perfect match for his fur!
Terra Bella Box is a monthly beauty box that sends you a mix of three to four bath, body, hair care, and skincare products. This is a transitional month for Terra Bella. Previously, they sent subscribers five to six skincare, makeup, hair care, bath, and body products, but the box was more expensive and they charged for actual shipping costs. Beginning this month, though, the price has been reduced to $32.95 with free shipping to US addresses. Terra Bella also has a new box, The Makeup Edit, for $29.95 per month, so those who prefer to get only makeup can go with that box, those looking more for skincare can go with this box, and those who can't decide can either subscribe to both or they can switch back and forth from month to month -- just make sure to switch by the 20th if you want the change to go into effect for the following month! The July box still has a makeup item in it because it is the transitional month, but, in August, the change will be complete and you won't see makeup products in future Terra Bella Boxes. Most of the products are full size, although there is the occasional deluxe sample size, too. All of Terra Bella Box's products are natural and generally (but not always) organic and/or vegan. Best of all, in my opinion, the products come from small businesses. I love that Terra Bella Box helps you discover little companies putting out great products that you probably wouldn't come across on your own. The owner clearly puts lots of thought into the curation of her boxes and you're always in for a treat when Terra Bella shows up in your mailbox.
Terra Bella Box sent me this box free of charge for review. Use code BBBEXTRA to get a free extra item in your first box!
Here's what came in the July Terra Bella Box:
- Skin Fix Cosmetics Margarita Sour Body Scrub (deluxe sample size, worth $11; full size costs $22)
- Ellison's Organics 5-Free Nail Lacquer in Island Sunset (full size, worth $12)
- Parlo Cosmetics Lip Polish in Bahama Mama (full size, worth $6)
- Sarah's Sweet Scrubs Aloe After-Sun Organic Lotion Bar in Pineapple and Lillikoi (full size, worth $13)
The July Terra Bella Box was worth $42. It's not the highest value Terra Bella Box I've seen, but it's still worth a good amount more than the price of the box. With boxes that source products from small companies, you're never going to see values like you would from ipsy or Glossybox because small businesses cannot afford to give huge bulk discounts like Clinique and Smashbox can. You're paying for the curation because it takes the time and guesswork out of buying from small companies. There was a bath product, a nail product, a skincare product, and a makeup product, so there was a great mix this month.
Each month, Terra Bella includes a card in the box with a spoiler for the following month. I love that about this box because I'm all about spoilers. The Skin Fix Margarita Sour Body Scrub was the spoiler for July. I've been looking forward to trying this ever since I got that spoiler card. While I love sugar scrubs, I knew with a scent like Margarita, I would either love it or hate it. I usually like lime scented things, but I was a little worried they would try to get the tequila scent in there. I hate how real margaritas smell because tequila is just horrible smelling, in my opinion, but, fortunately, this is all lime, no tequila! Pink Himalayan salt is one of the ingredients, so there are pretty flecks of pink in the scrub. Besides being exfoliating, this scrub is also moisturizing because of the shea butter, coconut oil, and grapeseed oil in it. It made my skin feel so soft. I really want to try Skin Fix's grapefruit scrub! You can also make a custom scent sugar scrub if you're looking for something a little different.
I've tried Ellison's Organics nail polish before and was already a fan, so I was happy to add another one of their products to my nail polish collection. This nail polish is 5-free, meaning it doesn't contain formaldehyde, toluene, camphor, DBP, or formaldehyde resin. The color subscribers received was Island Sunset, a color made especially for Terra Bella Box! I was surprised when I painted this on my nail and saw it was matte. I hadn't expected that, but I ended up liking it. It dries very quickly, which is a huge plus for me. The color looks a lot different on my nails from the way it looks above. It ended up being a slightly deeper pink with a hint of peach to it, bordering on a dusty color. For some reason, the picture of the bottle makes it look like a pale pink. If you look at the picture of the entire box above, the color is much truer to life. I loved the look this gave my nails, but I found it chipped a little sooner than I would have liked. The color is really gorgeous and unique, though, so I'm very happy to have this and it will definitely get some use.
The Parlo Cosmetics Bahama Mama Lip Polish will be the last makeup you see in a Terra Bella Box! This looks like a bit of a crazy color in the tube and in the swatch above, but it's much more wearable than you might think. There's some sheerness to it so that you still get a bright pop of color when you wear it, but it isn't quite as extreme as it looks in the pictures. While I love red-orange lipstick, the color definitely isn't for everyone. This shade, though, strikes a good balance -- it's bright and fun, but the sheerness makes it so that most people can handle the color. I always say I want bolder makeup colors in my boxes, and, while this isn't quite as bold as I would like, the fact that it's toned down a bit will make it so those who wouldn't normally try this color will actually wear it. The formula is creamy, not sticky, and very hydrating. It won't last all day on you, but it also won't wear off in 5 minutes. This was a fun choice for summer and it was a great pick to be the last makeup item in a Terra Bella Box! At only $6, it's also very affordable.
The final product in the July Terra Bella Box was the Sarah's Sweet Scrubs Pineapple and Lillikoi Aloe After Sun Organic Lotion Bar. Lilikoi is a type of passionfruit, I learned. The first ingredient in this bar is aloe, so it's the perfect thing to use after a long day in the hot sun. You just rub the bar between your hands and the bar warms up enough so that you can get the soothing and hydrating ingredients on your skin. This contains cocoa butter and, in my experience, cocoa butter always ends up dominating the scent of a product. I can barely smell the pineapple and lillikoi. While I would have liked the pineapple and lillikoi scent to have been a little stronger, cocoa butter is amazing for your skin, so I'm willing to let that go. Cocoa butter isn't a bad scent, but it's not as pretty as fruits and florals. I like this bar, though, and will definitely be reaching for it whenever I have a burn.
The August spoiler is Glow for a Cause's Facial Moisturizing Cream in Vanilla and Aloe. It's full size and worth $38, so this alone more than covers the cost of the box! Vanilla isn't my favorite scent, but, if it's not too strong, I might still like this. I love a good moisturizer, so I'm hoping I will like the scent enough to use it.
I loved the July Terra Bella Box! While every product in the box was a hit for me, my favorite item is definitely the Skin Fix Margarita Sour Sugar Scrub! It smells so good and makes my skin feel amazing. I loved the color of Ellison's Organics' Island Sunset nail polish, thought the bright pop of color from Parlo Cosmetics' lip polish was perfect for some summer fun, and found Sarah's Sweet Scrubs' Aloe After Sun Organic Lotion Bar to be very soothing and hydrating. The products were all great picks for the season. I can't wait to see what's in store next month once the transition is complete!
