It's that time again! I'll be writing up mini reviews for each of the boxes I reviewed this month and choosing my favorite box(es) and product(s) for June. If you've missed any reviews, this is a great way to get caught up. I'll include links for the full reviews of each box. The full reviews include links to the individual boxes and products. Sometimes, my opinion changes on a product after I've written the original review; if that has happened with any products, I'll make a note of it here.
Two of my June boxes, Goodbeing and ONYXBox, haven't made it to me yet. I'll review them once they get here! I ordered Goodbeing late in the month and my ONYXBox appears to have gotten lost in the mail, so they've shipped a new one. They don't normally come this late, for the record. It appears that I am no longer getting Kloverbox. I was being sent Kloverbox free of charge for review, but it never came last month and, as of right now, hasn't come this month, so I guess the owner stopped doing that. I might start paying for a subscription as it has consistently been one of my favorite boxes.
First up is Petit Vour! Petit Vour is a monthly vegan and cruelty-free beauty box. The star of the Petit Vour June box was Precious Skin Elixirs Sea Pearl Exfoliating Clay. You mix this clay with water to form a paste, then use it to scrub your face. It gives you the smoothest, softest skin ever. Besides being gently exfoliating, this clay also contains vitamin C, so it's brightening, too! I seriously love this stuff. EVOLVh is a leave-in conditioner that left my hair so shiny and pretty, but, alas, it is a volumizing conditioner, so it was not for me. It smells really good, prevents breakage, gives you some protection from heat and UV rays, softens and detangles hair, and keeps flyaways in check. I wish it weren't volumizing so I could use it. If you do need some volume, I recommend checking this out. I liked the Juice Beauty Green Apple Brightening SPF 15 Moisturizer, although it was a little thicker than I would have liked. It smells better than most of the Juice Beauty Green Apple products. Finally, there were two pots of Suntegrity Lip C.P.R. in SPF 30. The lipstick held up throughout the day and it gave my lips some much needed sun protection. I just wish the colors were a little bolder and brighter. I was very happy with the June Petit Vour!
The June Terra Bella Box was a lot of fun. Terra Bella Boxes contain natural products from small businesses. I loved that the box had a wide range of product types (makeup, sunblock, bath, body, and skincare) and they were all perfect to start off the summer. My favorite product in the box was the Merry Apothecary Brightening Mineral Veil. I had never found a powder that worked for my face until I tried this one! It evened out my skintone, gave me a glow, and helped keep my oiliness in check. Dermadeli's Invigorating Vitamin C Serum was my second favorite item. I love vitamin C serums. This had a light citrus scent to it and was very lightweight -- perfect for the summer! Formulary 55's Summer Solstice Bath Tablet had a ginger-citrus scent to it, which I liked more than I thought I would. It made for a luxurious bath. River's Bend Refreshing Peppermint Dusting Powder can be used anywhere you have excess sweat or it can be sprinkled on your sheets. The peppermint scent was relaxing and I liked using it before bed. It didn't leave a white mess on the sheets or on my clothes, which was something I was worried about. Last but not least, there was the Mann-Made Bath and Body Sunscreen Stick. The shea and beeswax scent to it wasn't my favorite and I found it a little difficult to put sunscreen on with a stick, but it was effective as a sunblock. This is possibly my favorite Terra Bella Box ever. I should note, there are some changes in store for Terra Bella Box over the next couple of months. Click on the link to the full review for all the details.
Next up, we have LaRitzy Box. LaRitzy is another vegan and cruelty-free box. The only product I really loved this month in LaRitzy was Josie and Hue's The White, which is a powder clay mask. The mask contains vitamins A and C, plus calcium and iron, and left my skin soft but firm. I liked Concrete Minerals Pro Matte Eyeshadow's pigment, but the color, Bandit, but neutral and boring. Concrete Minerals makes some beautiful bold colors, so I was hoping LaRitzy would send something brighter. I received my fifth Bedrock and Bloom Smart Ash, a charcoal powder for whitening your teeth. While I like Smart Ash, it is very messy. OFRA Cosmetics isn't my favorite brand and I have more black eyeliner than I know what to do with, so I wasn't happy to see the OFRA black eyeliner in my LaRitzy box. I couldn't get this eyeliner to blend well at all and it looked very harsh. The last product in the box, the Manna Kadar Bronzer and Highlighter Split Pan, didn't work for my coloring, but the product itself seemed to be of good quality.
There were a couple of amazing LaRitzy boxes at the end of last year/beginning of this year, but it's been quite some time since I've gotten one that really wowed me. I have decided to cancel LaRitzy. After I canceled, I got an e-mail from LaRitzy telling me about some big changes in store for the box. Beginning in August, they will no longer be sending subscribers four to five products from a variety of makeup companies. Instead, they will send subscribers three products from LaRitzy's own new line of makeup. The price will also go up $5 to $29.99 (although current subscribers will still pay the same amount they have been paying). I definitely made the right choice! I don't want to pay $30 for three products from a brand I've never tried. If I see rave reviews about the products, I'll reconsider, but, until then, I have no interest. Also, LaRitzy will no longer be vegan. They will include beeswax in their line, which they say is cruelty-free, but it's still going to turn off their serious vegan subscribers.
Amor Naturals is a quarterly box of natural, handmade products made by the owners of the company. The products are made in small batches and are always high quality. You can tell the owners really put their heart into the business. The Summer 2016 box had a Roman Holiday theme. My favorite product in this box was the Bella Glow Oil. The oil was moisturizing and gave my skin a soft, warm shimmer that was really pretty. The Grapefruit Gelato Coconut Oil Body Polish was a close second. I love sugar scrubs and found this to be both exfoliating and hydrating. I loved the grapefruit scent! While I don't usually like facial mists, the Cucumber Honeydew Hydrating Facial Mist contained glycerin and vitamins, so it's hydrating and good for your skin. It's very refreshing on a hot summer day. The Lavender Mint Artisan Soap was much more moisturizing than I expected from a bar soap. The mint balanced the lavender perfectly. Finally, the was the Dolce Moisture Lip Shimmer. Lip balm isn't something I use often, but this was a very hydrating balm and gave my lips some shine. Once again, Amor Naturals has put out a beautiful, high quality box. Watch their shop closely for when they put full size versions of these products up for sale. They're going to go quickly!
Beauteque's Mask Maven is a monthly Korean mask subscription. June had a Skincare Sundae theme. I haven't had a chance to try all nine masks yet, but, of the ones I have tried, the Lus Essence Royal Jelly Mask was my favorite. I didn't love the scent of it, but it made my skin feel hydrated and tight. Emily's favorite was the Dr. Morita Green Tea Mask, which she found very moisturizing. The Lovemore Wine Yeast Mask evened out my complexion and made my face look radiant. Emily used the Hanaka Macaron Facial Mask in Hyaluronic Acid, which was a clear gel, and liked the hydration it gave her skin. We haven't had a chance to try the other masks yet, but click on the link to the full review for quick descriptions of those masks.
Beauteque's BB Bag has a mix of Korean (and occasionally Japanese) skincare and makeup products. My favorite product in the June BB Bag was the A'Pieu Rub In Gelato in Riso. This was a cream mask that smelled just like an ice cream cone. I loved the scent of it. The mask gives your pores a deep cleaning, plus brightens and exfoliates your skin. I highly recommend this mask. The Saem's Chocopie Hand Cream looked cute, but sometimes products that look really cute don't work all that well. Fortunately, that wasn't the case with this hand cream. The cream was very thick and moisturizing. My hair needed some moisture and shine, so I was happy to see PureDerm's Vital Radiance Hair Mask in Honey. It's supposed to be for color-treated hair, but I used it even though I don't dye my hair. I had good results with it. While the Holika Holika Cover and Hiding Stick Concealer works well, it's too dark for me, so I wish they had customized the color for subscribers. This will work for people with medium skin tones, but those of us who have paler or darker skin are out of luck. The Holika Holika Dessert Time Lip Balm was cute, but wasn't for me. Finally, there was a generic beauty blender, which worked pretty well. Overall, I was happy with the June BB Bag.
I always enjoy DermStore BeautyFix and think it is often underrated. It was a weird month in that I liked all the products, but none of them really stood out to me as being my absolute favorite. The LumaRx Detail Trimmer was probably my favorite if I had to choose one, but it's almost a tie. It's great for doing your eyebrows quickly. Be careful, though, because it's more powerful than you'd think. I wasn't careful and took off a little too much. The MDSolarSciences Daily Eye Repair Emulsion was great for reducing puffiness, but it's a little on the expensive side at $82. The Supersmile toothpaste and whitening accelerator made my teeth feel extra clean. It's hard to tell how well this whitens teeth with such small samples. I liked that the Erno Laszlo toner wasn't alcohol based and was moisturizing. That's hard to find in a toner! While colored lip liner is not my thing, I liked the Laura Geller Pout Perfection Waterproof Lip Liner. It was closer than I expected to my natural lip color, so it's versatile, and it held up well throughout the day. I loved the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, but it's very pricey at $128 for a full size. It made my skin feel so soft, but it's pretty heavily scented, so it's not for everyone. The Keranique Lift and Repair Treatment Spray is volumizing, so it's not really for me. It did give me some shine and didn't give me all that much volume, but I'll probably end up giving it away. BeautyFix always has lots of luxe products, but it's always fun to try products that I would never be able to afford on my own.
The June Allure Beauty Box was okay, but I was expecting Allure to really knock it out of the park after all the problems they had in May. The May box was amazing, but Allure oversold it and ended up disappointing a lot of new subscribers who didn't get a box that month. Allure had Klorane mango shampoo as a spoiler for the June box, but they ran out, I assume, and they substituted Klorane Dry Shampoo. I've gotten a million Klorane Dry Shampoos. It's a good dry shampoo, but nothing special, and I didn't want to get yet another can of it. My sister loves the stuff, so she'll be getting this one. I loved the Leader Cranberry mask. It was moisturizing and fit my face better than most sheet masks. There were two Pur~lisse products this month. This is the third or fourth Eye Adore serum I've gotten recently. I like the serum, but a little goes a long way, so I still have plenty of it. I'll probably give this to a friend. The Pur~lisse Blue Lotus Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Essential Day Moisturizer is a lightweight moisturizer with sun protection. This gave me good coverage and hydration. Subscribers also received a Kardashian Beauty Cabana Bronze Matte Bronzer. The color palette didn't really work for me and I'm not a huge fan of the Kardashians. My favorite product was the Julep nail polish in Cassidy. The color, a dusty teal, ended up being gorgeous and perfect for the summer. I'm hoping the July Allure box will be better.
This was my second month of Play! by Sephora. I fell in love with the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter. This primer made my skin look flawless. This blurs any imperfections you have. I try to avoid buying beauty products because I get so many beauty boxes each month, but this might be worth it. The bareMinerals BareSkin Serum Bronzer is a thin liquid that you can use as a regular bronzer, mix in your foundation to give your skin a little extra color, or even mix it into body lotion to bronze your body a little bit. This worked better than I expected and I liked the effect, but I don't like it enough to go out and buy it. The tarte sunblock contained vitamins and was also hydrating, so this is a good, light facial sunblock. Although I usually like Tocca perfumes, Florence wasn't the scent for me. It had a green floral scent. I was excited to see a Bumble and Bumble product meant for those of us who air dry their hair as I never use blow dryers, but this gave me some added volume, unfortunately. It did make my hair extra soft. Sephora, for some reason, sent subscribers a Benefit They're Real mascara. Sephora has to realize everyone has tried this mascara multiple times, so I don't know why they included this in the box. People either love it or hate it and I am one of the ones who hate it. Overall, I was happy with the June Play! box. Three out of the six products were fabulous, but the others weren't really for me.
The June ipsy Glam Bag wasn't quite as good as May's, but it was okay. My favorite product was the Japonesque Solid Brush Cleanser. I'm very lazy about cleaning my makeup brushes, but this makes it easy and fun. The Seraphine Happy Hibiscus Blush is supposedly a universal blush because it's multi-chromatic, making it look different on everyone. I don't think there is any makeup that is truly universal, but this was flattering on me and a few friends who I tried it out on, so it'll work for a number of people. 12 Benefits hair treatment is something I've gotten a number of times in boxes. It's great for your hair, especially in the summer if you swim a lot, and it doesn't give you added volume, so this is one of the few hair treatments I like. I didn't have high expectations for Doucce's Boombastic Lash Volumizer Mascara as I prefer lengthening formulas to volumizing. My lashes are thick and short and volumizing mascara usually clumps up my lashes. While this mascara didn't quite give me the length I wanted, I was impressed that it gave my lashes extra volume without causing them to clump. All ipsy subscribers received an eyeshadow this month -- some subscribers got an eyeshadow from theBalm, others from Urban Decay. I was hoping for the Urban Decay eyeshadow as UD eyeshadows are my favorite. Usually UD eyeshadows have amazing pigment, but considerable fall out. I love the eyeshadow enough to overlook the fall out. Strangely, I had the opposite issue with Fireball, the color I received. There wasn't much in the way of fall out, but there also wasn't much pigment. I wish I got the Lounge color instead. I was disappointed. My June ipsy bag was better than many ipsy Glam Bags I've gotten, but it wasn't my favorite ever.
The June Glossybox had a Tony Awards theme. I don't know how the products really fit the theme, but the box was pretty. What is going on with Glossybox? I used to be the biggest Glossy fangirl, but it's been a number of months since I've been really impressed by one of their boxes. I loved Lué by Jean Seo. It's a tincture you apply to cystic acne that is just starting to come in and it's supposed to kill it off. I was skeptical that it would be effective, but it actually did appear to work for me. Each time I used it, the pimple was smaller the next day when normally it would have gotten bigger. The Caolion pore mask was the only other thing I loved in the June Glossybox. The masks made my pores feel squeaky clean and I loved the bubbles one of the masks had. The TanTowel was okay. It works, but self-tanner isn't my favorite. The Sebastian Dark Oil gave my hair a beautiful shine, but the other Sebastian product, Shaper Fierce, was a strong hairspray and not for me. The hairspray seemed to be of good quality and had serious hold, but I don't use hairpsray. The LA Splash lip lacquer and the Icona Milano Emotion Allowed Mascara were horrible. I don't know why Glossybox thought subscribers would like those products. While the Caolion masks and Lué made this Glossybox worth it to me, the lip lacquer and mascara really lowered my opinion of the June box overall.
I loved the design of the June Birchbox, which you can see under the products in the picture. I adored all the products and was really impressed. My two favorite products in the June box were the Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum and Benefit's Gimme Brow! in 03 Medium. The Evologie serum smells bad, but the smell disappears in a few seconds. My skin has been clearer than it has been in a couple of months since I started using this. I like that Birchbox sent me a deluxe sample of it! Benefit's new Gimme Brow made my eyebrows look amazing. It fills in any gaps you might have. Oftentimes, I skip doing my eyebrows, but this has made me want to do them every day. I hadn't realized that Oribe makes perfume, but they do, and the scent is supposed to be similar to their signature hair products. I liked the scent, but found it wasn't as long lasting as I would have liked. The Jeff Parlor shampoo gave me some much needed moisture, but I wish the conditioner had been included with it. I haven't had a sunburn yet, fortunately, but I'm happy that I'll have the COOLA Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion if I do. It felt very cool and soothing on my unburned skin, so I'm sure it'll be great after a burn. Birchbox has really stepped it up! Unfortunately, there are some big changes in store for Birchbox's point system beginning this month. I'm planning on writing an article about all the changes beauty boxes are undergoing this summer, so watch for that and I'll tell you all about Birchbox's new points system.
As for my favorite boxes in June, I think it would have to be Terra Bella Box, Amor Naturals, Birchbox, and DermStore BeautyFix. It's hard to choose just one, so I chose four. What were your favorite boxes this month?
As for my favorite products in June, they'd be Lué by Jean Seo from Glossybox, Precious Skin Elixirs Sea Pearl Exfoliating Clay from Petit Vour, Merry Apothecary Brightening Mineral Veil from Terra Bella Box, Josie and Hue The White from LaRitzy Box, Amor Naturals Bella Glow Oil, A'pieu Run In Gelato in Riso from Beauteque BB Bag, BECCA Backlight Priming Filter from Play! by Sephora, Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum from Birchbox, and Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow from Birchbox. I have a lot of favorite products this month! Usually my list isn't this long, but I love them all so much, so I had to include them all. What were your favorite products in the June beauty boxes?
I'll review the last two June boxes I'm waiting on once they come in. I can't wait for the July boxes to start shipping! Also, a lot of beauty boxes are undergoing major changes this summer, so I'll put up a post with a rundown of what those changes are and what they mean for subscribers in the next couple of days. I'd love to hear all about your June boxes in the comments!
