April has ended, so it's time to do a quick wrap-up of all the boxes I got in the past month! If you've missed anything, this is a great way to get caught up. If my opinion on anything has changed since I posted the initial review, I'll make a note of that here. I'll also try to choose a favorite box and, for the first time, a favorite product of the month. The boxes in this wrap-up are just the regular monthly boxes, not any limited edition boxes I may have reviewed. I've linked to the full review in each wrap-up; if you want the link to a particular product, it will be in the full review if you click through.
My April ipsy bag might have been the best ipsy bag I've ever gotten! Trust Fund Beauty is one of my favorite nail polish companies, so I couldn't wait to try out their new highlighter, That Glo Though. TFB has recently branched out from making only nail polish to also making lipstick and highlighter. I wasn't sure if their makeup would be of as good quality as their polish because nail products and makeup are very different things. Fortunately, their highlighter ended up being amazing! It was so easy to use in stick form and the color would be flattering for almost anyone. I usually skip highlighter unless I'm dressing up, but I've been wearing it daily since I got this. The REN Day Cream was very hydrating and fabulous for sensitive skin. I also liked the Tarte LipSurgence Lip Crème in Poppy. It was a muted, but pretty, red, great for when you don't want anything too bold, but still want to wear red lipstick. The Nth Degree Hair Serum gave my hair a little bit of added shine. I also liked the Crown Brush Blush Brush. Its bristles were soft, but not too soft, and gave me good, even application of my powder blush. I never like everything in my ipsy Glam Bag, so this was a surprising month!
Next up is Glossybox. This was an okay month for Glossy, but it didn't really wow me. I liked the Unani Mask and found it moisturized my skin well. It's a full size product, so that is a big plus. The Leighton Denny nail polish stayed on much better than I expected it would. It took a couple of days to chip, which is a long time for me. The color was also gorgeous. The Biossance The Nourisher face oil was a light oil with a rose scent. It gave me some moisture without leaving me feeling greasy. The Studio 10 brow pencil was okay. I used it a couple of times after writing the review, but I doubt I will use it again. I prefer other products for my brows. I was annoyed by the inclusion of the $2.99 Not Your Mother's sea salt spray. Other subscribers got a deluxe size sample of an expensive perfume, so I definitely had some box envy! Emily thought the spray worked well and she loved the scent. April wasn't a horrible month for Glossybox, but it wasn't an amazing month either. It's been a long time since Glossybox has really knocked it out of the park, in my opinion. I hope they step it up in May.
My April Birchbox wasn't all that impressive. I wasn't a fan of the Au Naturale makeup trio at all. The design of the sample palette made it difficult to use and the little makeup I could get out of the palette didn't stay on for long. Amika makes a good texture spray, but I've gotten it in boxes before, so it wasn't exciting for me to get. Emily will use that. The Marcelle 3-in-1 Micellar Water was okay. It works better as a toner than a makeup remover. The Odacité serum and Dr. Jart+ contour cream both had promise, but the samples of them were so small that determining their efficacy was impossible. I hope the May Birchbox is better!
I liked most of the products in the April DermStore BeautyFix box, but it wasn't an exciting month, in my opinion. They included three different moisturizers in the box! I like moisturizers, but three in one box is a lot. I loved the bliss fabulous drench 'n' quench moisturizer, so at least I found a new favorite moisturizer. I couldn't use the CōTz sunblock because the tint is meant for someone with a slightly darker complexion. It kind of gave me a Trump/Boehner skin color when I did a patch test, so I was not going to be putting that on my face. The AHAVA serum was amazing and I almost want to buy a full size of this product. I needed to do something about my under eye area and the Patchology gels came at the perfect time. It brightened the area a little bit, so I was a fan. I loved the Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat! My nails needed a break from regular nail polish and this strengthening gel was just what my nails needed. The SmartFX mascara gave me more volume than length (the opposite of what I need) and clumped on me, so that was a pass. I also have never been a fan of the Juice Beauty moisturizer. The smell really bothers me. I've gotten it a number of times in the past, so I wasn't excited to see a full size version in this box. April was a solid month for BeautyFix, but they've had better months.
Beauteque Mask Maven is always a fun box to get in the mail. I love sheet masks because they're an easy, quick way to give your face exactly what it needs, whether that be moisture, cleansing, anti-aging, oil reduction, or whatever else. Almost all of the masks this month were fruit-based. I liked all of the masks except for the Lovemore Loofah Aloe Hydrating Mask. It just did not fit my face properly and kept falling off. I don't generally have that issue with masks, so I don't think I have a weirdly shaped face. Emily loved both of the Skinfood masks. They had strong fruit scents to them, fit well, and were neither too dry nor too drippy. Overall, April was a great month for Mask Maven.
The April Beauteque BB Bag was lots of fun. I had gotten a mini version of the Baviphat Urban Dollkiss Peach Peeling Gel in a BB Bag last year and loved it, so I was happy to get a full size container of it this month. The peach scent isn't my favorite, but I adore a good peel and this one does the job quickly and effectively. The peach container is also really cute! I wish US companies would put out equally adorable packaging. It makes a product more fun to use. I finally used the Somoon Dog Nose Pore 3-in-1 Pack and thought it worked wonderfully. It even got out those annoying little sebaceous filaments. I liked that Beauteque sent out an 8-pack of the Dr. Morita Q10 eye patches. They brightened my under eye skin up and, using them a couple of times a week, I saw significant improvement. The Saem Saemmul Easy Eyeliner surprised me. I usually don't like Korean makeup all that much, but this went on smoothly and had serious staying power. The Seatree mist isn't for me. It's just not something I use. The Toyoepin false eyelashes worked well and were easy to use. I don't use false eyelashes all that often, but this will be fun to have on hand for special occasions. Overall, I was very happy with the April BB Bag.
Terra Bella Box is always fabulously curated, and April was no exception. The URBNBody Tea Tree Foot Salve made my feet feel so soft! It gave my feet a tingly feeling and made them look significantly better after one night. The container made it a little difficult to use, but the product is amazing, so I'm willing to overlook that. I also found the Etherealle Contour Kit's packaging to be less than perfect. The highlighter, blush, and contour were all high quality products, but it was impossible to open the containers without making a mess. Fortunately, the full size versions come in much better packaging, so I recommend skipping the samples and going for the full size. I was surprised by how much I loved the Queen Charlotte Shaving Cream! When I saw the pot, I thought it wouldn't be enough to shave even one leg, but there was actually enough product for multiple uses. It has a taffy-like consistency, so you pull off a tiny piece. It foams up when it gets wet, so the little bit that you pull off is enough for a full shave. I got a great shave with this cream and thought it had a beautiful scent. Emily loved the Frisky Fish Essential Oil Roller in EXHALE, a lavender and eucalyptus scent. The scent wasn't for me, but I absolutely love Frisky Fish's FLY scent. These are great, versatile, and surprisingly inexpensive for essential oils. Finally, there was the Mane & Co. Polishing Wax. This was an absolutely perfect product for Emily's hair! It smells so good and gave her some light hold and shine, which is just what she needs. The April Terra Bella Box was amazing!
The April LaRitzy Box was my least favorite of the LaRitzy Boxes that I've gotten. It wasn't a horrible box, but I think previous months have been a lot better. If you haven't read the full review, I recommend clicking over to see one of the cutest baby bunny pictures ever! The Toogga oil was nice for my skin and hair, but it made my face break out badly. The Glow for a Cause solid perfume in Innocence was easy to use, long lasting, and had a strong scent to it. The scent was not for me at all, but Emily loved it, so it is now hers. I loved the Modern Minerals eyeshadow brush. It's perfect for cut creases and anything you need slightly stiff bristles for. The Lippygirl Vegocentric lipstick didn't work for me. I like much bolder colors. Once it was on, it lasted all day, so, if you want a vegan lipstick and don't want anything really bright, this might be what you are looking for. The April LaRitzy was by no means horrible, but it wasn't the best I've seen from them.
Petit Vour had some box variations in April. They usually don't, so I was a little surprised that they did. I ended up loving the box I got, so I didn't end up with box envy. I've gotten Smart Ash Teeth Whitener in other boxes and liked it, so I was happy to see it again. The charcoal powder really does whiten your teeth and isn't harmful for your enamel, as other whiteners can be. You need just a teeny amount each time you use this, so even though this sample looks very small, it will last you a while. Be sure you are very careful when using this! The charcoal can stain your clothing, so I recommend brushing your teeth naked or in clothes you don't care about when brushing with Smart Ash. The Kumari River Bath and Body Oil had a beautiful scent to it, wasn't as greasy as most body oils, and absorbed into my skin quickly. I also loved the scent of the Juara Coconut Illipe Hand and Nail Balm. The sample is on the small side, but I was able to get a few uses out of this. It gave my hands some much needed moisture and didn't leave my hands feeling oily and gross. Usually, cream eyeshadows crease on me, so they tend not to be my favorite. The Studio 78 cream eyeshadow, though, held up all day and didn't crease on me until the very end when I was about to wash it off anyway. I used Urban Decay eyeshadow primer under it, but I've used cream shadows where even the primer didn't prevent creasing. The color of this eyeshadow was really pretty and would work for most people. The April Petit Vour had high quality products that I ended up loving.
The April ONYXBOX had a great product mix this month! They have been a little heavy on the hair products in the past, but they balanced the hair products out in April with two eyeshadows and two sets of nail wraps. Because ONYXBox is specially curated for black women, I enlisted the help of my friends, Johnny and Angela. They tried out the products for me and reported back. Johnny absolutely loved the ncLA nail wraps! He loves to have pretty nails, so this was perfect for him. ncLA nail wraps go on easily and last a long time, so these are great if you want nail art but don't have the ability to paint intricate designs on your nails or don't want to pay someone a lot of money to do it. He also liked the Hikari eyeshadows a lot. They were very bright and had amazing pigment. I haven't liked Hikari products all that much in the past, so I had low expectations for these eyeshadows, but these surprised me. Angela tried out the Curl Keeper Leave-in Conditioner, the OGX Healing + Vitamin E Penetrating Oil, and the TréLuxe Curl Supreme Styling Creme. She loved how all three of the products worked. Her beautiful curls were well-defined, soft, shiny, and not weighed down at all when she used these. She was impressed by all of them. The April ONYXBox products were all hits!
Finally, there was the always fun Kloverbox. The owner of Kloverbox puts so much care into the curation of the box and it really shows. Each subscriber received an extra product from one of Kloverbox's past boxes in April. They were doing some spring cleaning and had to make room for new products. The Go Green Miracle Balm was amazing. It is unbelievably hydrating. The Love Reusable Bag Snack Pouch Set was a great choice for the box. They're very sturdy and are the perfect size for a sandwich or small snack. Emily and I both liked the goodnessknows Snack Squares. I was a little surprised that they weren't all that sweet, but there are no added sweeteners in it, so it makes sense. I still haven't had a chance to try the Kali tampons. I didn't like that the feminine wipe included with the tampons was scented. I'm not a fan of scented feminine hygiene products, as you might remember. The Preserve razor was the extra item that was added to my box. I liked the razor the last time I got it, so I was happy to see it again. It gives a good, close shave and has a handle that won't slip out of your hands in the shower. Other subscribers got different items as their extra. This wasn't my favorite Kloverbox ever, but I still liked it a lot. It's fun getting some home goods and snacks in my boxes occasionally, and Kloverbox always picks the perfect things.
April was a good month for beauty boxes! ipsy and Terra Bella were my probably my favorite boxes this month. I think this is the first time ipsy has made it to my favorite list! I had been thinking about canceling ipsy for a while, but, if they keep this up, I definitely won't be. As for my favorite product in April, it's hard to choose just one. I think Trust Fund Beauty's That Glo Tho, the bliss fabulous drench 'n' quench moisturizer, and the AHAVA serum were my favorites. Emily's was definitely the Mane & Co. Polishing Wax.
What were your favorite April beauty boxes? Did you have a favorite product? I'd love to hear all about what you thought of your boxes in the comments!
