ipsy Glam Bag, $10 per month per month, add $4.95 for shipping to Canada
My baby bunnies are growing up so fast! I put three of them in my April Glam Bag, but one decided to climb on top while the other two were inside. The one on the top is a 10-day-old Siamese Mini Satin.
ipsy is one of the biggest monthly beauty subscriptions. I generally compare and contrast ipsy with Birchbox because they are the two most popular subscriptions and are both $10. Birchbox is heavier on skincare, while ipsy is heavier on makeup. Birchbox tends to include only higher end brands in their boxes, but ipsy has a mix of drugstore and higher end stuff. ipsy's sample sizes are usually bigger than Birchbox's. I would say the ipsy demographic skews younger than that of Birchbox. Both subscriptions allow you to fill out profiles so that they can customize your boxes each month. Also, ipsy gives subscribers a new makeup bag each month. The April design is seen above. If you're new to beauty boxes and can't decide between the two, I suggest trying both out if you can afford it.
Here's what I got this month:
- Nth Degree Moroccan Argan Oil and Keratin Hair Serum (tiny sample, worth $1.40; full size costs $14)
- tarte cosmetics LipSurgence Lip Crème in Wonder (deluxe sample, worth $12; full size costs $24)
- Trust Fund Beauty That Glo Tho Face Highlighter (full size, worth $20)
- REN Skincare Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream (deluxe sample, worth $26.95; full size costs $45)
- Crown Brush C427 Tapered Duo Fiber Blush Brush (one brush, worth $9.49)
My April ipsy Glam Bag was worth $69.84. As I mentioned above, ipsy customizes bags based on profiles subscribers fill out, so you may have gotten completely different products. My ipsy bags are generally worth $40-$60. This month was worth a little more than usual! You definitely get your money's worth with ipsy.
First up, there was the nth Degree Smoothing Moroccan Argan Oil and Keratin Hair Serum. This was a pretty small sample, but it's big enough for you to get at least a few uses out of it. To use it, smooth a few drops into the ends of dry or damp hair. It will give you some added moisture and improve the appearance of split ends. I'm not much of a hair oil person, but I gave it a try. It gave the ends of my hair a little shine. I doubt I will use this regularly, but it'll be nice to use on occasion. Emily will probably use this a lot more than I will.
Tarte always has fun, high quality products, so getting something from them is a treat. I've liked most Tarte lip products I've tried. I loved the LipSurgence Lip Crème in Poppy. The color, which I've swatched below, is gorgeous. It's a good color for when you want a red lip, but you don't want anything too dramatic and attention-getting. It was moisturizing and lasted most of the day. It needed a touch-up after I ate lunch, but that's true of most lipsticks. While I prefer dramatic liquid lipstick (OCC or Too Faced Melted), when I have a busy day, Tarte is my go-to lip color.
I absolutely love Trust Fund Beauty nail polish, so I was excited when I heard they were branching out into makeup. I saw that they had added lipstick to their product line, but I didn't realize they were also making highlighter until I saw it in the ipsy spoilers for this month. While their nail polish is fabulous, makeup is a very different thing. I wasn't sure it would be of the same quality I'm accustomed to from TFB. I was so happy to see I would be getting their highlighter in my ipsy bag! When I saw how dark it looked in the tube, I was a little nervous that it wouldn't look good on my pale skin. When it goes on, as you can see below in my swatch, it is actually very sheer and would work for probably just about any skin tone. It looks darker than it really is in my swatch picture because I built it up a bit so it would be easier to see in the photograph. It doesn't add color as much as it does shimmer. The choice of a tube for the highlighter was perfect. It is so easy to apply! It gave me a beautiful, subtle glow that lasted all day. Trust Fund Beauty knocked it out of the park. I'm really impressed. A good highlighter can be hard to find, but look no further -- this stuff is amazing. This is now my Holy Grail highlighter!
I've been hoping to try Trust Fund Beauty's lipstick, but I haven't been lucky enough to get one in a beauty box. I was bored the other night and decided to check out what ipsy had for points rewards. I couldn't believe it when I saw that ipsy had TFB lipstick available for 500 points! Of course, they were out of all but one color, but I grabbed the one color they had left. I got the Trust Fund Beauty Lipgasm Lipstick in Something Witty, which they describe as a "bright, cool pink." It's not my first choice of color, but I want to try this lipstick so much that I don't care. I'll get in with my May ipsy bag, so I'll give you a review of it next month. All Trust Fund Beauty products I've gotten have been full sizes, so I'm hoping the lipstick will also be full size. I can't wait to try it! Has anyone tried TFB lipstick yet? If so, is it as good as their other products?
The REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream is supposed to help make sensitive skin less sensitive, moisturize your skin, and fight signs of aging. It absorbs quickly into the skin and has a light scent to it. It was very hydrating. My girlfriend's mom's skin is quite sensitive, so I'm going to offer this to her and see if it helps her at all.
Finally, there was the Crown Brush C47 Duo Fiber Tapered Brush. This brush is meant for applying blush, foundation, and highlighter. The bristles are soft and pliant, pick up a good amount of makeup (but not too much!), and give you smooth coverage when you apply your makeup. Crown Brush makes good quality brushes that aren't terribly expensive, so I'm a fan. I like that this brush has indents on the handle so you can get a good grip on it.
This was an amazing ipsy bag! This might be the best bag I've ever gotten from ipsy. The Trust Fund Beauty highlighter was my favorite product in the bag, but I liked everything. The April bag design was just okay, but that isn't a big deal to me. I think ipsy must have known it was my birthday when they put my bag together this month! Speaking of which, only ten more days until my birthday!!!!!
How was your ipsy bag this month? Did you love it as much as I loved mine? What did you get? I hope your Glam Bag was as fabulous as mine was.
