Glossybox Review, February 2016

Glossybox, $21 per month, has many international versions

This is the pretty cover of the Glossybox this month!  I love when they have special boxes instead of the regular ones.  I save them to put presents in.

Pablo hopes you will be his Valentine.  He's such a cutie!  He's holding the product information card from the Glossybox, which he thought would make a pretty Valentine card.

Glossybox is a monthly box that usually contains deluxe and full size samples of higher end products.  It is usually heavier on skincare than makeup and hair products, but it always has a mix.  The boxes they come in are sturdy and pretty, so subscribers often save them for makeup organization or gift giving.

This month, I got the following items in my Glossybox:

My February Glossybox was worth $79.20.  That is almost four times the price of the box, so you definitely get your money's worth with Glossybox.  There were variations this month, so your box's value my vary.  I could not find the Oasis Gem lipstick line for sale on Teeez's website or anywhere else.  I had to use the value Glossybox listed on the product information card for the lipstick.

I love GlamGlow products.  I know many people think they are overpriced (and they certainly are!), but I like to get them in my beauty boxes.  I don't end up buying their products, but I'm always happy to get a sample.  At the beginning, GlamGlow sold only mud masks, but they have branched out a bit.  They now have cleansers, among other things.  ThirstyCleanse is the cleansing cousin of the ThirstyMud mask.  They are, as you probably guessed, meant to hydrate your face.  I don't believe I've ever tried the ThirstyMud mask.  ThirstyCleanse combines clay and coconut water to thoroughly cleanse and moisturize.  You're supposed to apply this to your dry face, then wet your hands and rub them together to form a lather with the product that is left on your hands.  You then rub the lather on your face and add more water.  My face was clean after using this, but I didn't notice any serious hydrating effects. I would probably have to use it consistently to see substantial hydration. $39 for a face cleanser is a little expensive, in my opinion, so I would never buy this.  I will, however, enjoy the sample while it lasts.

I'd never heard of this product before.  The être belle Golden Skin Caviar Roll-on Eye Gel is applied around the eyes to reduce inflammation and make you look less tired.  It is supposed to moisturize, smooth, and firm up the delicate skin under the eye.  I tried this a number of times and it seemed to work some, but not as much as I would have liked.  I'll save this for the days I look most tired.

How many times am I going to get Benefit's POREfessional in my beauty boxes?!  I have gotten this same teeny sample in so many different boxes.  It's an okay primer, but far from being my favorite.  It doesn't hold up as well as I would like and it feels a little on the greasy side.  I'll use it if I'm out of all my other primers.  Benefit, I assure you, almost every beauty box subscriber in the world has tried your POREfessional.  I know you make other products, so get beauty boxes to give out samples of Puff Off or Gimme Brows or Erase Paste or any other product in your line instead of POREfessional.

Teeez Cosmetics is a British brand that I was introduced to by Glossybox last year.  I've tried a makeup brush and nail polish from them, but I've never tried their makeup.  I got the Oasis Gem Lipstick in Heat Wave Ruby, which Teeez does not appear to sell online.  The Glossybox info card said it was limited edition, so it may have been made exclusively for Glossybox.  That would be my guess.  I've swatched the color below.  It's a gorgeous red.  The color was flattering on me and lasted for a few hours.  You'll have to reapply this over the course of the day, but it holds up better than many lipsticks.  I should also mention that the packaging of this, and all Teeez products I've tried, is very pretty.

Finally, there was the BioRepublic Skincare Sheet Mask.  I got Cucumber Breeze, but subscribers could receive different varieties.  I already get so many sheet masks from Beauteque's Mask Maven, so I don't get all that excited about getting them in other boxes, but I find Glossybox sends out some high quality masks.  This mask contains cucumber extract, vitamin E, and plant collagen soothe skin, even skin tone out, tighten pores, and fight signs of aging.  I had a friend who needed this kind of mask try it out for me.  This was her first time using a sheet mask and she left it on for only ten minutes instead of fifteen to twenty.  The mask was well-made and wasn't the really thin type that will rip when you try to put it on.  My friend's face felt hydrated and refreshed after using it.

This is one of my least favorite Glossyboxes.  The inclusion of the teeny POREfessional did not make me happy.  I didn't hate this month, but it just didn't feel as special as most Glossyboxes I've gotten.  There was not one really amazing product that stood out to me.  A beauty box can have four items I don't like and one fabulous new discovery and I'll be happier with that than a box with five products that are just okay.  For me, beauty boxes are all about finding those special products and that's where the value is for me.

What did you think?  Did you get the same stuff in your box?  What were your favorite and least favorite products?  Were you as unimpressed by this month's Glossybox as I was?
