PopSugar Must Have The Ultimate Vacation Mystery Box, $50 (no longer available)
Emmett always loves a PopSugar box because it's one of the only boxes he can fit in!
PopSugar is a monthly lifestyle box that contains a mix of beauty products, accessories, home goods, and snacks. Occasionally, PopSugar offers a mystery box with a mix of items from past boxes. They had a vacation mystery box recently, so I decided to get it. The vacation mystery box was $50, so quite a bit more expensive than their normal mystery boxes, but PopSugar said it would not only contain products from the regular boxes, but also from their limited edition boxes, and that the box would be worth $350+.
Here's what I got in my PopSugar Vacation Mystery Box:
- lemlem Split Cover Up (worth $198)
- Tai Evil Eyes Pom-Pom Bracelet (worth $95)
- Sachajuan Hair in the Sun (full size, worth $32)
- Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Dry Shampoo (full size, worth $28)
- Sunnylife Inflatable Swan Drink Holder (worth $24.95)
- Sunnylife Pineapple Ice Tray (worth $26.95(?))
- Let it Block SPF 30 Sunscreen (full size, worth $30)
- Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes with Coconut Milk and Essential Oils (full size, worth $9)
My mystery box was worth about $443.90! That's an amazing value. The pineapple ice tray seems to have been redesigned by Sunnylife and the new version is listed at $26.95, so that is the value I used. I got a fashion item, a piece of jewelry, four beauty products, and two home items. Not everyone who got a vacation mystery box received the same products -- there was quite a bit of variation -- but it seemed as though everyone got the cover up, the Sachajuan hair product, and the Sunnylife swan.
First is the lemlem Split Cover Up, which came in the PopSugar Limited Edition CFDA box. I reviewed that box over the summer, so this is the second one of these I've gotten. I like the one I have, but I didn't need a second one. This beach cover has an uneven hem and the lines don't match on the two sides, but it's supposed to look like that. It's an interesting look and a bit out of my comfort zone, but I like it. I can't imagine paying almost $200 for this, though. That took up almost half the value of the box. I'll give this second one to my little sister. The annoying thing about this cover up is that it is one size, so it won't fit plus size women, unfortunately. I would be pretty upset if I got this and it didn't fit me, so I don't know what PopSugar was thinking when they chose this item.
Next up was a Tai Evil Eyes Pom-Pom Bracelet from the PopSugar Limited Edition Summer 2016 Resort Box. I didn't get that box, so this was new to me. This is a well-made bracelet and is cute, but not my style at all. This was more Emily's style, so it ended up in her stocking on Christmas.
I got the Sachajuan Hair in the Sun in the July PopSugar box. This is a cream that protects hair from the sun, keeps color from fading, hydrates your hair, and has a light styling effect. I don't dye my hair, so I don't have much use for this, but I've given it to friends who absolutely love it. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to use it even in hair that hasn't been colored because protection from the sun is always a good thing. Maybe I'll keep this one and try it out this summer.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Dry Shampoo came in the CFDA box, so I already had one of these, but I had Nirvana White and this time I got Nirvana Black. I absolutely love Nirvana White perfume, but the Black has never been for me. This has notes of violet, sandalwood, and vanilla, so it's not my type of scent at all. This works well as a dry shampoo. It goes on white, but it's easy to blend in so you don't look like you have grey or white roots. It did leave my hair pretty heavily scented, so I'll be passing this along to a friend who will appreciate it more.
I got the Sunnylife Inflatable Drink Holder Swan in my July PopSugar box. I know a lot of people hated these things, but I think they're cute and I love having one. I took it to the beach with me to hold my drinks. It's more for a pool, but it can work at a beach, too. You could even use it for a picnic so you could have a place to keep your drinks and not have to worry about them being knocked over. I only need one of these, so I'll be giving this second one to a friend.
The Sunnylife Pineapple Ice Trays came in a PopSugar Mini box, so I didn't have these. I've never tried the PopSugar Mini box before. They actually just discontinued it, so I guess I will never try it. I love pineapples, so I think these ice trays are just the cutest. They don't have the same exact style of these anymore, so I linked to Sunnylife's new version of the pineapple ice tray. These are flexible and the ice cubes easily pop out without breaking, so you don't lose the little pineapple tops. I can't wait to have a summer cocktail party and use pineapple ice cubes. You could even make your ice cubes out of pineapple juice if you wanted. I hate watered down drinks, so I might just do that.
The Let It Block SPF 30 Sunscreen came in one of the Mini boxes also. This comes in a big foil pack of sorts that uses less material than regular plastic containers. It's a mineral-based, water-resistant sunblock that also contains plant extracts to hydrate your skin and give it nutrients. There's not much sun around here this time of year, but I look forward to trying it this summer. If you've tried this product, does it work well?
The final product was the Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes. This was originally in the PopSugar June 2016 box. These have a light coconut scent to them and worked better than I expected. These are a deodorant, not an antiperspirant, so it won't keep you from sweating, but it'll keep you fresh. These were effective all day for me, but it's winter and I'm not sweating all that much, so I don't know how well they would work in the summer.
This was just an okay box for me. I knew I would get some products I already had, but the products they sent weren't all that exciting. This box was more summer than vacation to me. I can't say I've ever taken ice cube trays on vacation. That said, my favorite product was the set of ice cube trays. The only products I'm keeping for myself are the ice cube trays, the sunblock, and the deodorant wipes, which are, coincidentally, the three cheapest products. The others went into the gift pile. While this was worth a lot more than $50, I wouldn't say it was worth the $50 to me. This box was a bit of a disappointment.
Did anyone else get the Vacation Mystery Box? If so, what did you think? Did you get the same products I did?
