The baby bun thought the Julep box was the perfect size for him!

This is my first month getting Julep!  You may have seen my Julep Mystery Box and Bonus Box reviews in the past, but I've never subscribed to their monthly box before.  If you're not familiar with Julep, it was originally a nail polish subscription box, but they've branched out and now make lots of different makeup and skincare products.  I don't usually like subscription boxes that include only products from their own brand, but I've found Julep's products to be of really high quality, so I was willing to give it a try.  Each month, Julep releases a new collection of nail polish and makeup.  The makeup collection is usually (always?) a line of the same type of product in different colors.  Sometimes it's a completely new product, other times it's a product that they've had for a while but have added new colors.  Julep chooses three products for you based on your profile, but you have a window before shipping where you can choose to go with the products Julep chose for you or you can switch them out for other products.  You can have all makeup, all nail polish, or a mix of the two.  Julep also allows you to purchase additional products for your box, such as the entire nail polish collection for the month or other select items, at a discount.  Mavens, as Julep calls its subscribers, are also able to get a discount on all products that aren't on sale anytime during the month.

Here's what I got this month:

My December Julep was worth $56!  I changed all three of my products this month.  Julep had chosen the nail polish colors Jolie and Ginny and the It's Whipped Matte Lip Mousse in Mwah! for me.  I liked two of the other nail polish colors in the December collection more and I needed a primer, so I decided to switch them all.  Here's the entire December collection if you want to see it.  Julep also throws in a piece of candy each month and this month subscribers received a green apple candy stick.  Green apple has never been my favorite, so I haven't eaten it, but I'll give it to someone who will.

I chose Kristjana (left) and Bree (right) for my nail polish.  Julep describes Kristjana as sweet plum holographic and Bree as golden gardenia multidimensional glitter.  I knew the second I saw the December collection that I wanted Bree.  It's a beautiful pale gold with big pieces of glitter and, unlike many glitter polishes, it gives you full coverage.  It's a gorgeous color and, evidently, I wasn't alone in thinking that as it's the only product in the December collection that is currently out of stock.  I had a harder time choosing the second color as I liked most of the colors but none of them quite stood out to me the way Bree did.  I finally settled on Kristjana, which is a beautiful deep plum with holographic glitter.  I don't love it as much as I love Bree, but I still like it.  If you're not familiar with Julep nail polish, it is 5-free and vegan and is supposed to strengthen your nails.  Julep claims its nail polish is fast drying, but I haven't found that to be the case.  It'll get somewhat dry relatively quickly, but for it to be fully dry and not get squished and weird looking if it presses up against something, it takes quite some time.  I use my Seche Vite over it to make it dry faster.  The formula itself gives me great coverage in one to two coats, depending on the color, and usually lasts a couple of days before chipping, which is good for me as I can be hard on my nails.

The final product I chose was the Julep Blank Canvas Mattifying Face Primer. I've tried Julep's lip mousse before and the formula wasn't my favorite, so I didn't want to get another one.  I was very low on primer as I hadn't gotten many primer samples in boxes recently, so I chose Julep's primer.  Of course, I got two samples of primer this month in other boxes because that's just my luck.  This is a creamy, untinted primer.  I'm not a fan of the gel primers, so I was happy to see that it was a cream.  It had a blurring effect on my skin and provided an excellent base for my foundation.  I highly recommend this primer.

I'm very happy with my first Julep box!  I love being able to choose my own products so I can be sure to always get exactly what I want.  The nail polish colors were gorgeous and the primer worked perfectly.  I wish you got more than three products in a Julep box, but at least the products are always full size.  I've signed up for a six month subscription to Julep, so you'll be seeing more reviews in the coming months.  I can't wait until Julep opens up product selections for the January box.  Just ten more days!

Does anyone else get Julep?  If so, are there any Julep products you're completely in love with that I need to try?  I'm open to suggestions!  I'm already a big fan of their eyeliners, but I haven't tried a lot of their other makeup.
