ipsy, $10 per month US, add $4.95 for Canadian orders
He's almost too big for the bag! This cute little Holland Lop is growing up too fast!
ipsy is one of the most popular beauty subscriptions. At $10 per month, it's very affordable and it's a great subscription to start with if you are new to beauty boxes. Subscribers fill out a profile upon signing up and ipsy customizes subscribers' bags using the profile. Each month, you get five products. The products are a mix of makeup, skincare, and hair care products, but ipsy tends to go heavier on makeup. You'll get a both drugstore and higher end brands and the sample sizes tend to be bigger than those of Birchbox. ipsy also sends out a cute little makeup bag each month. It used to be that all subscribers received the exact same bag, but they've recently begun having color variations some months.
Here's what I got this month:
- REN Clean Skincare Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask (deluxe sample, worth $16.52; full size costs $55)
- Hikari Cosmetics Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Iris (full size, worth $15)
- Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Face Primer (small sample, worth $4.23; full size costs $31)
- tarte cosmetics tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in WCW (small sample, worth $3.33; full size costs $20)
- Cake Beauty Heavy Cream Intensive Hand Repair Balm (deluxe sample, worth $6.47; full size costs $22)
My December ipsy was worth $45.55, which is a pretty average month in terms of value. When I saw the spoilers, I thought the bag was going to be made from a deep pink or red velour material, but it's actually a hot pink bag that has almost a hair-like texture to it. I still can't decide what I think of it. Everyone got the same bag this month, no color variations. I got three makeup products, a skincare product, and a body product, which is a pretty good mix.
First, we have the REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask. This is a sticky yellow mask that has a mix of glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, and tartaric acid. It is meant to exfoliate, improve skin texture, and brighten skin. You apply it, leave it on for ten minutes, then rinse it off. I used this at night before bed and I was impressed by how radiant it made my skin look. I wasn't expecting to see an improvement after just one use, so I was surprised by how much better my skin looked. They don't recommend using this if you have sensitive skin, but, if you don't have sensitive skin, this is worth the $55 price tag.
Hikari isn't my favorite brand -- it's one of those companies you see all the time in beauty boxes and their products are okay, but nothing special, generally speaking. Their eyeliner surprised me, though! This stuff stays on all day and won't budge. You need an oil-based makeup remover to fully remove this. The tip on this is very fine, so you can tightline with it quite easily. The color is a deep purple that is quite pretty and a nice change from the usual black eyeliner. I couldn't believe how much I liked this liner.
I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've gotten Benefit's POREfessional primer in my boxes before. This is something you'll get in every beauty box eventually, it seems. This is an okay primer, but it's not my favorite. It's a cream, not a gel, so it has that going for it, but there's nothing that makes it stand out from other primers. I'll use it if I have a sample of it, but I would never buy it.
Next up is my favorite product in my December ipsy, tarte cosmetics' Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in WCW. This is a gorgeous color! It's a deep berry with a little extra purple in it. This went on beautifully, stayed on all day, and looked amazing on me. This is my first time using tarte's Lip Paint. I would love to try it in other colors. My only complaint about this product is that the color range is so limited! They don't even have a true red or pink! I hope they expand the line.
Finally, we have the Cake Beauty Heavy Cream Intensive Hand Repair Balm. This is a thick, non-greasy hand cream that is very moisturizing. I would love it if not for the scent! This has a strong French vanilla smell to it and it's just not for me. If you like vanilla-scented things, though, you're going to love this!
That's it for the December ipsy! I loved three of the five products, so it wasn't a bad month. The tarte lip paint was amazing and I can't recommend it highly enough! The Hikari eyeliner was surprisingly good and the REN mask left my skin looking radiant and beautiful. The primer was okay, but it's just not my favorite. While I like the formula of the Cake hand cream, the scent didn't work for me. Overall, though, I'm very happy. My ipsy bags have really improved this year! I used to often think about canceling ipsy, but no more.
What did you get in your December ipsy Glam Bag? What did you think? Did anyone else get the tarte lip paint?
