DermStore BeautyFix, $24.95 per month, US only
DermStore BeautyFix is a monthly box that contains at least six items (usually eight or nine) and has a value of over $100. I think it is one of the best values out there and I'm sad I didn't start subscribing sooner! Currently, they are offering the first month of a subscription for $12.50. They've been doing that for at least the past few months, so I don't know if it will be a permanent thing or if it is for a limited time.
Here are the contents of my January BeautyFix Box:
- Danielle Creations Chrome Mini Mirror (worth $14.99)
- June Jacobs Papaya Purifying Enzyme Mask (small sample, worth $7.50; full size costs $60)
- Arcona Magic White Ice (deluxe sample, worth $12; full size costs $42)
- Peter Thomas Roth Acne-Clear Invisible Dots (12 dots, worth $6; 24 dot pack costs $12)
- Medicell Labs Hydrating Calm Facial Mist (full size, worth $13.95)
- Karuna Age-Defying Hand Mask (one hand mask, worth $9.50)
- Tarina Tarantino Pearl Glow Luminizing Primer in Pearl (full size, worth $32)
- DS Laboratories Revita LT High-Performance Hair Stimulating Shampoo (deluxe sample, worth $20.55; full size costs $36.99)
The January DermStore BeautyFix box was worth $116.49. That's more than four times what I paid for it!
In each of the three months I've subscribed to BeautyFix, they've sent a beauty tool. My first month they included a set of travel makeup brushes, my second box had a travel-size brush, and this box has a small mirror. I really like that about BeautyFix. I've never gotten a mirror in a beauty box before, so I was happy to see this in the box. This isn't a huge mirror, but it would be great for small detail work (e.g., plucking eyebrows, applying false lashes). One side is magnified 4x, the other is not magnified. It's a good quality mirror and I am enjoying using it. This is my first time hearing of Danielle Creations, but I'm impressed by this quality of this product and hope to see more from this company in the future.
As you might imagine, my beautiful bunny models are vain. They think this mirror is the perfect size for them and I'm always catching them checking themselves out in it. Here's a picture of one of my lovely babies looking in the Danielle Creations mirror below.
I always love a good mask! I've never tried anything by June Jacobs before. This mask contains a mix of papaya, mango, and pineapple. The fruit enzymes are supposed to dissolve the dirt from your skin, allowing the oils to sink in and hydrate your face. It also contains antioxidants to help fight signs of aging. It has a faint piña colada scent to it. It felt very luxurious and left my face feeling moisturized and soft after a cold winter day.
The Arcona Magic White Ice is a moisturizer meant to be used in the morning and at night. I always like getting moisturizers that can be used at either time. It makes things less complicated, especially when traveling. This is a multi-purpose moisturizer that is said to kill bacteria, hydrate your skin, and neutralize free radicals. The cranberry extract in it gives it a nice cranberry scent. I don't know that I've ever seen cranberry used in a facial moisturizer before, so I was surprised when I smelled it. The moisturizer itself is on the thin side, but it absorbed quickly and made my skin feel much better. This cold snap is really doing a number on my skin, so I need all the moisturizer I can get right now! Of all the moisturizers I have, I've been reaching for this one recently because it's helping my face feel not so dry and disgusting. I just wish the tube was bigger!
A few weeks ago, I was thinking I should buy some more acne dots! I've used cheaper brands before, but I've never used the Peter Thomas Roth dots. I had the fortune of having completely clear skin when this came, so I was worried about how I would try these out. I've finally gotten through those horrible months of constant breakouts now that the weather has cooled down and the humidity has gone way done. Having less stress has been helpful, too, I suspect. Of course, a pimple just had to show up the next day! I used one of the dots overnight and the pimple was all but gone in the morning.
The dots in this package came in two sizes. After choosing the right size dot and applying it to the pimple, you leave it on for eight hours. You're going to want to do this before bed because, although the dots are clear, they are visible. You might wonder why you would buy these expensive acne dots instead of the dots that are a half or a third of the price, especially considering they have the same active ingredient. I know that was my first thought. After trying these out, though, I don't think I can go back to the cheaper dots. The dots of the less expensive brands are made of much thicker plastic and have an inferior adhesive. I would wake up and not have the dot on my face in the morning. If my hand brushed against my face, it could knock a dot off because the plastic was thick and anything could catch it. The Peter Thomas Roth dots are extremely thin and have great adhesive that will make it so the dot stays on all night. I'd rather spend a little more to make sure the dots actually stay on my face and do their job then waste money on something that will fall off in ten minutes. I also find the Peter Thomas Roth dots to be more comfortable to use because it molds to your skin. This might just be a Holy Grail product. They are a great thing to have on hand when you have a special event coming up! You never know when you might need it. We all know that pimples have a way of showing up at the most inconvenient times, so it's good to be prepared and have these at the ready.
My hands have been disgustingly dry and cracked this winter. BeautyFix knew exactly what I needed! Hand masks are a little annoying because I always like to be doing something with my hands and I hate having them out of commission for even fifteen to twenty minutes. I desperately needed some moisture, though, so I gave this a try. The skin on my hands felt softer than it has felt in a couple months! I didn't notice any real anti-aging effects, but my hands don't look particularly old yet anyway. I was sad that my hands were back to almost the same condition they had been the very next day, but it was nice to have them not feel like sandpaper even for a night.
Many facial mists I've encountered have been mostly water. I can fill a spray bottle with water at home if that's what I want, so I've never been impressed by those types of mists. The Medicell mist, though, contains antioxidants, retinol, and vitamins A, C, and E, so it is not your regular moisturizing mist. It's a mist with anti-aging properties. I personally don't like using mists when I have my makeup on because I'm afraid of messing it up, and I already use anti-aging moisturizers at night, so what use do I have for this? I use it for my chest and neck. The skin on the chest and neck can really show the effects of aging, but people so often forget these parts in their anti-aging skincare regimen. This is an easy way to give your chest and neck a little love.
I had just been thinking recently that I was finally getting low on primer -- something that I never thought would happen -- then I get a primer in my Glossybox and a primer in my BeautyFix. Perfect timing! Best of all, both the primers I got were full size, so I should be set on primer for a while now. Of course, that probably means I will get primer after primer in the coming months. I've tried a couple Tarina Tarantino products before and liked them, so I was looking forward to seeing how this would work for me. I can be picky about primer. This was a very light color, almost white, and went on sheer. It gave me a subtle glow that was flattering on me. It provided a great base for my makeup. I looked almost as good at the end of the day as I did at the beginning. I definitely recommend this product.
Finally, there Revita LT Hair Stimulating Shampoo. I wasn't able to try this product for several reasons. First, as I've mentioned many times, I have extremely thick hair and do not want any additional hair or volume. Second, the LT version of this, which is what BeautyFix subscribers received, is supposed to be for blonde hair. They make a version for those of us with darker hair, but, for some reason, BeautyFix decided to mail out something meant especially for blondes. Many more people have dark hair, so I think it would make more sense to either ask subscribers about their hair color or to send out the regular version to everyone. I'm not sure if this product works or not, but if anyone happens to have tried either the LT or regular versions of this shampoo, I'd love to hear your thoughts on these products.
Everything this month was a huge win for me except for the shampoo. I got way more than my money's worth, so I am very happy with the January BeautyFix. I believe if you order now, you can still get this month's box, so I recommend you take advantage of the half-off sale and order this. This is one of the best subscriptions out there right now, in my opinion, so give this a try if you're having trouble deciding which box to subscribe to.
