Terra Bella Box Review, December 2015

Terra Bella Box, $37.95 full box, $17.95 lite box, US only

Terra Bella is one of the newer beauty boxes on the scene.  It contains natural, handmade products from small businesses.  They have a few different options for subscriptions.  The box here is the full size box, which contains five to six beauty items per month.  They also offer a lite box for $17.95, which contains two to three items per month.  If you just want to see what Terra Bella is about with committing, you can also buy a trial box for $24.  The trial box contains a mix of items from past and present Terra Bella boxes.

In the past, the card Terra Bella enclosed in the box listed the product names and prices and that was it.  This month, they've started adding information about the products' ingredients and how to use them.  I love that they are doing this now.

Terra Bella sent me this box free of charge to review.

Here's what was inside the December box:

The December Terra Bella Box was worth $48.05.  The value seems to be going up a little bit each month, which is nice.  This is a new subscription box and, as I said above, they work with small businesses.  Smaller businesses generally can't give the same huge discounts to beauty boxes as bigger brands can, so boxes that include products from small businesses typically won't have the same value as ones that work with bigger businesses.  Of course, there's also more value in the curation in boxes that work with small businesses because, chances are, you wouldn't encounter the products from small businesses on your own.  It's a great way to discover companies making handmade, high quality products.

Terra Bella had a Live Beautifully Whipped Lip Butter in the October box, so I was a little surprised to see another one of their products in the December box.  I loved this Blackberry Wine Lip Balm Jelly, though, so I'm definitely not complaining.  My experience with Live Beautifully products has been great, so I'm always happy to see more.  They have so many scents I want to try!  They all sound so good!  The Lip Balm Jelly feels like Vaseline, but it is actually made from self-emulsifying wax and beeswax.  It felt very moisturizing and soothing.  Best of all, Live Beautifully has a 20% off sale going on right now, so check out their site.  Use the code LBMERRY.

I had never heard of Zen Redhead before I received their Zen Gloss in this box.  The ingredients of this product are very simple: coconut oil, essential oil of rose, essential oil of ylang ylang.  I hadn't realized coconut oil could be used as a highlighter.  It does add a nice subtle shine, so if you put in on the parts of your face the light hits (tops of cheekbones, forehead center, Cupid's bow, chin, down bridge of nose, etc.) it will give you a little shimmer.  I like highlighters, but I personally prefer a cream or powder with a little color to it, not a clear oil.  Also, it smelled more like ylang ylang than rose and I wasn't a big fan of the scent.  The instructions for this product say you can apply it to skin that will be exposed to cold air in protect it, but it's going to leave you looking shiny wherever it is applied.  Needless to say, this product wasn't a hit for me.

I was unfamiliar with R Devine Skin Care, so I was couldn't wait to give their Sacred Calm Soothing Facial Cleanser and Serum a try.  I'm always on the lookout for a great new face wash and serum!  It contains lots of great plant oils and has a lavender scent to it.  I found it cleaned my face really well.  It didn't take much to do it.  As a serum, it's also nice, but I would prefer to use it as a cleanser or a serum, not both on the same night.  Its great for sensitive skin, so people who have that issue might prefer to use it as both a serum and cleanser.  R Devine also included a coupon code for 20% off their products!

Sugar scrubs are some of my favorite things to get in a beauty box!  They're so simple when it comes to ingredients, but  full body exfoliation feels so nice and the scents are always relaxing, so it feels like a real treat.  The Mint Julep scent, which is what all subscribers received, contains peppermint, vanilla, orange, rosemary, tangerine, and almond.  The peppermint is the dominant scent, but it doesn't have that sharp peppermint smell like a candy cane -- the other scent oils balance it out nicely.  They also make the scrub in berry and coconut lime scents.  I want to try them all!

Finally, there was the Indigo Wild Mini Zum Bar Goat's Milk Soap in Frankincense and Myrrh.  What a nice holiday scent!  It's not one of the obvious holiday scents like pine, gingerbread, or peppermint, so I like that it's a little different.  The scent has a bit of a masculine feel to it, but I think almost everyone would enjoy the smell.  It feels so moisturizing with the goat's milk and aloe in it.  I love the scent and feel of this so much, I don't want to use it because I'll be sad when it's gone!

I loved this month's Terra Bella!  The Zen Gloss wasn't for me, but the other products were just fabulous.  The scents chosen for this box definitely had a subtle holiday feel to it, but with a bit of a twist.  I really like that Terra Bella has decided to include information on each product beyond the name and price.  Having the descriptions and usage instructions right there in front of me was a big help.  I discovered some great new businesses and am having a hard time convincing myself I don't need to buy the products in additional scents.  Overall, December was a great month for Terra Bella.  I can't wait to see what will be in the January box!
