November 2015 Petit Vour Review

Petit Vour

$15 per month US, $23 per month Canada

Petit Vour is a vegan, cruelty-free beauty box.  Petit Vour sent me the box free of charge to review.  While I don't keep vegan myself, I do like to use vegan beauty products when possible.  I've found many times that the vegan cosmetics are just as good as, if not better than, cosmetics that contain animal products, so why not choose the makeup that is kinder to our animal friends?

Here’s what was in the November Petit Vour box:

The November Petit Vour box was worth $44.59.  That's about three times the price of the box, so I'm very happy with the value there.  Petit Vour has a consistently high value.

The Pelle Beauty Luxe Beauty Balm was just not my favorite.  It is a water-free moisturizer, made with plant oils and floral waxes.  Based on the description on the card enclosed in the box, I was expecting to smell flowers.  I did, to some extent, but the overwhelming scent was earthy.  I read the ingredients to see where the scent was coming from because the description did not make it sound like there would be an earthy scent to it.  The first ingredient was broccoli seed oil, so that is where the odor was coming from.  Earthy smells are not my thing at all.  It felt very moisturizing, but I couldn't handle the scent.  My girlfriend, Emily, liked it, though, so she will be sure to put it to good use.  The fact that it is all oil and wax will probably make it a great choice for the very cold, dry upstate NY winter.

The beauty company Modern Minerals collaborated with Lotus Wei, a company specializing in flower alchemy (I linked to Lotus Wei's description of flower alchemy because I had no idea what it was) to make the line of Lotus Wei Infused Emotive Lip Gloss.  Modern Minerals itself uses flower and gemstone alchemy in their cosmetics to improve your moods while you wear their makeup, according to their website.  The floral and gemstone blend of this line of lip gloss is Lotus Wei's formula and is meant to encourage "Love of Life - Inner Strength - Compassion - Living in the Present Moment," the web page for the lip gloss line says.  I hope I have explained this all correctly because I wasn't quite familiar with the concept of flower alchemy.  If I have made any errors, I invite Modern Minerals and/or Lotus Wei to contact me so I can make any needed corrections.

Okay, now that I've gotten that out of the way, how was the lip gloss?  Now, as people who have read my columns know, I don't generally like lip gloss.  I hate that tacky feeling that so many of them have.  My hair moves, gets stuck in the gloss, and it annoys the hell out of me.  This gloss started off with a little tackiness, but that wore off pretty quickly.  Although the sticky feeling wore off, the color didn't.  The violet rose color is absolutely gorgeous in the tube.  It isn't quite as vibrant on the lips, but it is still pretty and provides a little color and a lot of sparkle.  It has a very subtle, but lovely scent.  I don't know that I necessarily noticed any emotive effects, but I liked this more than most other lip glosses I've tried.

I'm a huge fan of One Love Organics already, so seeing one of their products that I hadn't tried before in my Petit Vour box was a nice surprise.  FYI, their Skin Savior Multi-Tasking Wonder Balm is amazing and you need it.  I'm swimming in dry shampoo from all the beauty boxes I get, so it's not my favorite thing to see, but I was willing to give this one a try.  This dry shampoo is unique in that it not only soaks up excess oil in your hair, it also contains ingredients that are good for your locks.  It's always nice when a beauty product does double duty!  It has a very light scent and it brushes out easily so you don't have that tell-tale white cast to your hair after using it.  If you're in the market for a new dry shampoo, give this one a try.

Finally, we had the Organic Bath Co. Stress Less Organic Body Oil.  I think we all know that, as fun as the holiday season is, it can be really stressful.  It was so smart of Petit Vour to include something to reduce stress in November, the start of the holiday season.  I'm sure all Petit Vour subscribers will be putting this oil to good use in the coming weeks!  It says to apply the oil to damp skin in order to lock in moisture, so use it with your spouse/partner/girlfriend/boyfriend/whatever after a nice, relaxing shower.  Emily loves body oils, so she was excited to give it a try.  It contains lavender and other essential oils for the relaxing effects, plus other plant oils for moisturizing and revitalizing skin.  I gave her a massage with the oil and she loved it.  It's definitely very relaxing.  This is a small sample, but you don't need to use that much, so it should last more than a few times.

Petit Vour had an excellent month again.  They had a good mix of products and, between Emily and me, everything will be used.  I liked the dry shampoo, body oil, and lip gloss, and Emily liked those plus the beauty balm.  Sending subscribers a body oil meant for relaxation in November was so thoughtful.  I'm hoping December will be just as good!
